Glenn Hauser logs March 26-27-28-29-30 , 2015

** ALBANIA. 9855, Sunday March 29 at 2302, something here with music and talk, presumed R. Tirana on new frequency for Albanian hour to N America, but only poor vs local noise level. 9850 should be the new frequency for English at 0130 from UT Tuesday (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** ANGUILLA [non]. 12025, March 30 at 0124, fair signal with Iran in Spanish has CCI underneath from a YL in English --- sure sounds like Pastor Melissa Scott --- new relay for her??? On second receiver I compare to 5935 and yes, there`s a match. But when first receiver, PL-880 switches in attenuation, she vanishes, so it`s a receiver-overload mixing product, tho I am only using a few meters of random reel-out wire under the eaves on the porch.
More astounding is the math of this mix: 5935 WWCR plus 6090 Anguilla = 12025, which are totally separate but both carrying the same program, PMS! What a coincidence. There could be numerous other overload mixes around 12 MHz from strong 6 MHz band signals which are not duplicative (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** AUSTRALIA. 11590, March 30 at 1344, RBA is NOT in English as registered in HFCC for KNX HCA HCA, but S Asian song and talk; 1357 YL with a PO Box, namaskar; 1400 seems to switch language with OM announcer, but still not English; 1415 S Asian song, 1419 still language. Final check at 1458, now it`s in English!
Seems that RBA totally jumbles scheduling from one season to the next, becoming ever more complex, but it`s all spelt out on their website,
or more conveniently reached beyond:
11590 is axually in English only at 1445-1530 daily while at 1330-1400 it`s Hindi, 1400-1445 variety of other languages. 11590 is designated for ``South Asia - South``. But there is another frequency, 15340 for ``South Asia - North``, which now ALSO has English at 1445-1530, some of it matching 11590, some of it not! This one starts at 1300 in various languages, 1415-1445 Urdu daily. I hear it at 1458 check, but very poor compared to 11590. There is only a 5-degree difference in azimuths, 305 on 11590, 310 on 15340, per HFCC A-15. I suppose the hymn medley runups will be heard from 1325 and 1255 respectively (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CHINA. 13890, March 30 at 1358, CNR1 jammer, good
13830, March 30 at 1358, CNR1 jammer, fair
16530, March 30 at 1359, CNR1 jammer, poor
16100, March 30 at 1359, CNR1 jammer, very good with flutter
Quick scan of 12-18 MHz did not find any others, but I really started too late before hourend* and even so was putting off breakfast (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA. 11880 // 5040, March 29 at 2309, RHC English starting `DXers Unlimited`, Arnie Coro degraded voice quality on the phone after the studio-produced standard opening. 11880 is stronger but 5040 is louder (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA [and non]. 13605, March 29 at 1936, R. Martí is still loud & clear here, as the lethargic DentroCuban Jamming Command keeps its wall-of-noise on ex-13820. Also:
6030 & 7405, March 30 at 0556, wall-of-noise jamming and can`t detect any R. Marti beneath, which is usually possible on 7405 at least, so this being Monday, suspect RM has resumed a Monday-morning silent period. Yes! HFCC now shows day-2 is skipped at 03-07 on 7405, 07-09 on 5980, and 03-09 on 6030. Amend the full RM schedule I recently promulgated. Now if the DCJC would only catch on and let us hear Calgary or something else, but DHYB.
11930, March 30 at 1425, wall-of-noise jamming, maybe R. Martí JBA underneath it; while 13605 remains very good in clear with no jamming until the DCJC catch on that its nemesis is lingering no longer on 13820 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** EGYPT. 9965, March 29 at 2305, open carrier with humwhine, then some just-barely-modulated music and talk seems like it is English, so R. Cairo unchanged for this so-called North American sesquihour (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** IRAN. 11890, March 30 at 0123, VIRI IS, very good with flutter, 55-63 dbu on the PL-880, brief mumbled opening by YL, NA in standard opening procedure. HFCC shows it`s the Kazakh hour at 0120-0220, 500 kW, 5 degrees from Sirjan, yet serving Oklahoma well! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** JAPAN. 6020, March 30 at 1332, very poor signal in Japanese(?) with piano, believed to be Shiokaze having made another periodic frequency jump, as no longer traced on 5985. 6020 is among the ``JIC`` Yamata 290-degree alternative frequencies registered, at 1330-1430. Whatever, 6 MHz band is no use this far east during the summer daytime (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** JAPAN [non]. 11705, March 30 at 1419, NHK World Radio Japan in English with Japanese lesson, fair, but ACI from stronger 11710 VOK in French. Nevertheless, 11705 should be one of our better chances for NHK English, 1400-1430 despite due west via PALAU; // 15735 via UZBEKISTAN southwards unchecked but surely inferior if at all. Some days, VOK is likely to be absent (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** KURDISTAN [non]. 11510, March 30 at 1345, very poor signal, presumed Denge Kurdistane, back on summer frequency ex-9400. 11510 is HFCC-registered all the way from 03 to 19 via KCH = PRIDNESTROVYE, but one can never be sure what other sites will really be switched around for it. Last A-season, 11510 was often sufficiently good during this enjoyable mostly-music hour, still so anticipated. But remains very poor at 1418 recheck with talk (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** MEXICO. 1100, March 30 at 0515, I sit on this frequency for a while, as there is Mexican music without too much WTAM even tho I`m not nulling it, but instead some local noise source. There are SHVA (super-hype voice actor) exclamations between each tune, but difficult to copy. Try speaking in a normal tone of voice? No way! Finally at 0530 a peak allows me to make out a ``Radio Cañón, 90.1 FM`` ID, then a political for Partido Humanista; so it`s XETGO, Tlaltenango, Zacatecas, 30000/400 watts, really? It sounds like less than 30 kW, but more than 400 watts. I already heard it recently and also has been reported much further into El Norte. Seems to be the dominant XE on 1100 now among five or seven others listed (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** NEW ZEALAND. 6170, March 30 at 1328, here is RNZI on its reactivated A-season/winter frequency, ex-9700. Wrapping up `Dateline Pacific`. Good signal now, starting at 1259, but it will get worse and worse as our sun rises earlier and earlier. 9700 is now scheduled until 1258 but it`s back on the NW antenna, rather than the NE, so not so good for us (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** NIGERIA. 7415, March 30 at 0554, good signal with chanting & percussion, not // 11650 Dabanga, so what`s this? 0559 mentions Obama, bit of music and off 0559.5*. HFCC shows it`s ASCENSION, 250 kW, 55 degrees at 0500-0600 in ``Kau`` which means Kanuri language. Therefore it`s the new A-15 frequency for Dandal Kura to the Boko Haram area of Nigeria (and the other broadcast at 18-19 is still listed on 12050) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 90.1, KUCO Edmond, Sunday March 29 at 2100 UT, I am expecting to hear another episode of `Mad About Music` from WNYC/WQXR via WFMT syndication, but instead it`s `New Music from Bowling Green`, a show I have also been following at 03-04 UT Mondays. Yet, the current KUCO program grid,
claims the 4 pm CDT Sunday show is now `Relevant Tones`, yet another one I would like, and at 10 pm Sunday, a new one, `Song: Mirror of the World` --- but tonight at 0300 UT March 30, `Bowling Green` is repeated!
All mixed up; and maybe the sked is really not effective until April? Anyhow, `Mad` appears to be gone from KUCO, but I catch this week`s episode with Pierre Boulez, instead on Yellowstone Public Radio, Monday at 17-18 UT. Only one more subject for that linked at YPR, April 6: ``Financier FELIX ROHATYN on his love for the cello and Yo-Yo Ma`, so maybe it`s about to expire there too?
Listening direct to 90.1 at 1800 UT March 30, wrapping up final hours of pledge drive, Kimberly forgot to give any legal ID, neither KZCU nor KCSC for 95.9 Woodward satellite. She does get in the legal IDs at 1811 UT, still KZCU, I guess till April 1 (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** PHILIPPINES. 15355, March 29 at 2307, hunting around for Oman on one of its possible frequencies, hear Tagalog instead of Arabic: yes, HFCC shows at 2300-2330 only, it`s RVA in Filipino, 250 kW non-direxional, but CIRAF targets are 42-45 which = Chinas, Koreas and Japan; poor signal with W&M chat. So there are plenty of Filipin@s in those countries? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SPAIN [and non]. 17850, March 29 at 1934, French here, poor with ACI from much stronger Spain 17855, with silly ballgame. HFCC shows RFI in French is scheduled on 17850 now at 17-20 (also Persian 1430-1500). This is ABSURD! Scads of open frequencies on 16m and these two wind up adjacent, just as they are on the map! It`s Spain`s fault as 17855 is a new frequency for them, while FRANCE has used 17850 for a longtime (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SUDAN [non]. 11650, March 30 at 0547, really wild shouts and echoes, what`s this? 0548 R. Dabanga spoken ID, good signal with no jamming on new frequency for A-15. HFCC shows it`s via VATICAN at 0430-0600, so we know it must be preceded by companion R. Tamazuj at 0400-0430 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** TURKEY [and non]. 11980, March 30 at 0549, Turkish music, fair-good, as TRT has made its usual switch to summer frequency until 0557, ex-9700, which is now reoccupied by Romania in English for A-15. 11980 now scheduled 04-06 at 310 degrees to W Europe, and consequently N America beyond, a good source for late-night musical accompaniment, with reception expected to improve (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U K [non]. 7445, March 30 at 0553, BBCWS in English is VG, awaiting Nigerian elexion results. Was already here in B-14 but continues in A-15, 05-07 via ASCENSION, but with beam switch at 06 from 102 to 65 degrees, which lessens signal here off the back (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A [non]. 7460, March 30 at 1336, VOA Korean with song not in English, very good but with SSB ACI, probably a MARS net; // and synchronized with 11990, then talks about civil rights, also // weaker 11935 not synch. 7460 is 21 degrees from Tinang, PHILIPPINES at 12-15, just as I suspected, since its 21-degree beam also shoves good signals into North America far beyond Korea (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1766 monitoring: confirmed Sunday March 29 at 2300 still on 11580, only fair here with deep fades. Transmitter #9 here remains on 44 degree azimuth, so should be good in Europe, but almost off the side toward here.
(Meanwhile other WRMI frequencies on more favorable beams are much stronger at same time: 5850, 315 degrees, good with Global 24 oldtime radio; 11825, 355 degrees, very good with `Jazz from the Left` --- these are weekends only. 9955 has wall-of-noise jamming, 7570 with the Brother Scare moanin` & groanin` hour).
At 0130 March 30 I noticed that there was no signal on 5110, boding ill for next airing of WOR on WBCQ. Yes, no signal at 0306 either, but WOR confirmed starting at 0300 on Area 51 webcast. I ask Larry Will, and he explains ``The transmitter was down last night; it appears the exciter is having issues.`` Next:
Tue 1100 WRMI 9955
Wed 0630 HLR 7265-CUSB Hamburger Lokalradio [time shift for DST]
Wed 1315 WRMI 9955
Wed 1430 HLR 7265-CUSB Hamburger Lokalradio [time shift for DST]
Wed 2100 WBCQ 7490v
Thu 0330 WRMI 9955 [or 1767 if ready in time]
** U S A. (5110), WBCQ not on air, but 0259 UT March 30 I bring up the webcast to check on WORLD OF RADIO (which is back on at proper time this week). I just hear the outro not by John Lightning, but ``Dave`` ending a ``tribute to Big Steve`` --- oh, oh. That would be Big Steve Cole, from whom we have not heard for several years. I ask Larry Will:
``What was that? Not on the worldmicroscope schedule as such. I also see there was a John H Carver BBQ last night. Wonder what that was, something he produced? 73, Glenn`` Larry replies:
``John Lightning's show was hosted by Dave the Boogie Man last night.
Big Steve Cole passed away Sunday afternoon after a long illness. John
has a nice tribute on his web site
John Carver didn't produce a show for us, but he did inspire the
Saturday 0300 Grateful Dead-themed show. Regards, Lw`` (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 17775, March 30 at 1355, KVOH is already on early with praise music, and what`s more, already propagating well as SSOB (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 5830, March 30 at 0557 as I tune across here, WTWW-1 is missing, but within seconds pops back on during a manly song; it seems any female voices are banned from SFAW, even as psychophants. Slight carrier wobble with BFO. No telling how long it had been off (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** VATICAN [and non]. 6070, March 30 at 0555, choir is atop CFRX and making fast SAH with it, as Vatican Radio doggedly stix to this frequency for another season, altho shifting this morning mass one UT hour earlier; and also conflicting with the low-power German on 6070.
Just after I dispatched previous report about VR website no longer working, updated linx arrived in the new edition of Alan Roe`s Hitlist,
Vatican specials now accessible here, notably ``holy week`` in UT +2:
but what I heard, Portuguese on a Vietnamese frequency, was not among them.
12050, March 30 at 1341, ``R. Vaticana, la Radio del Papa`` ID as I tune in WEWN, noting the usual squeal accompanying this transmitter, and now also with hum, like on 11870 at night (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
This report despatched at 1828 UT March 30
** AUSTRALIA. 11590, March 29 at 1423, S Asian song, good signal. HFCC shows this is the new English frequency from RBA, 1325-1530, 100 kW, 305 degrees from Kununurra; replaces 12115 which started at 1400. In B-14, 11590 was in S Asian languages only (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CHINA. 13920, March 29 at 1324, Chinese drama, CNR1 jammer mixing with RTTY. No time for a full 12-18 MHz bandscan today (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) See also EAST TURKISTAN
** CUBA [non]. 13605, March 29 at 1322, Spanish and music, as R. Martí has jumped from 13820 to 13605 for A-15; no jamming here, but wall-of-noise still on 13820, faking out the DentroCuban Jamming Command which is too out of it just to consult HFCC. Here I excerpt RM for A-15:
5980 07-10
6030 00-12
7365 00-03
7405 03-07 & 12-14
9565 20-24
9805 10-13
11930 14-24
13605 13-20
Or in time order by the two Greenville transmitters:
00-12 6030, 12-14 7405, 14-24 11930
00-03 7365, 03-07 7405, 07-10 5980, 10-13 9805, 13-20 13605, 20-24 9565 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** EAST TURKISTAN. 17630, March 29 at 1418, CRI English, good signal, lite flutter, new for A-15. HFCC shows the ubiquitous 308 degree antenna, 500 kW from Urumqi for Europe at 12-15. But also registered is CRI English via Mali, 100 kW at 85 degrees, at 14-16. No sign of a second signal here! I bet some list-loggers will again assume this is Mali instead of East Turkistan (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SPAIN. 17855, March 29 at 1416, VG signal in Castilian about Armenia, of all things. Obviously REE on unexpected frequency, and starting an hour earlier with DST in Europe, *1400 on weekends. Surely this is on a NAm antenna, a great improvement over 9620 which was completely non-funxional for a midday path. Finally they have studied a bit of Propagation 101! Confirmed source by // much weaker 15490. 17855 is in fact registered in HFCC A-15, but not at this hour: 16-24 Sat/Sun, 20-24 M-F, 200 kW(?? odd power), 290 degrees to CIRAFs 4, and 6-11 = all of contiguous USA, Canada east of Manitoba, all of Mexico, Central America, Caribbean. We had suspected the times in these Noblejas registrations were erroneous, CEST = UT +2, instead of UT, and this appears to confirm it. Transmissions should now end circa 2200 UT, not 2400 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A [non]. 11990, March 29 at 1421, VOA Korean on new frequency, into music, good signal here, better than another new //, 11935 but which is not synchronized. HFCC A-15 shows:
11990 is 250 kW at 21 degrees from Tinang, PHILIPPINES at 12-15
11935 is 250 kW at 333 degrees from TINIAN at 13-15
** U S A [and non]. 5850, March 29 at 0553, very surprised to encounter ``radiogram`` beeping on this WRMI frequency, instead of TruNews, which continues on 7455 and 9395. 0554 followed by more melodic intoning, and synthetic voice announcement of address and postal address for Capibara Games Inc., in Toronto. More tones follow, 0559:30 cut to classic WRMI ID, 0600 into ME fill music (a CD Jeff picked up in Oman??) rather than back to TruNews. Signal VG as usual on this frequency.
Meanwhile, adjacent 5855 Cuban numbers transmitter was open carrier/dead air at 0553, by 0600 YL started voice numbers. It too would include `radiogram` digital modes. What companionship.
We had seen absolutely no advance publicity about another STF special broadcast, maybe started at 0500? Was it on WRMI`s Facebook where station news sometimes appears exclusively? NO.
Meanwhile, WRMI has made a number of schedule changes, and the new A-15 transmitter/frequency grid in UT is up at:
Among other things, note that 11580 and 15770 are no longer 24 hours, but still on partly with TOM and as previously with other programming, including WORLD OF RADIO Sunday at 2300 on 11580, Friday at 2130 on 15770 (also 7570).
Revised program schedule for 9955 presented in EDT = UT -4:
9955 is off the air again at 1429 check March 29. The program sked shows TOM is still supposed to be on 9955 at 14-21! No mention of webcast only during the daytime; but the frequency sked does show a 9955 gap at 14-21 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A [and non]. 9840, March 29 at 1428, YL gospel huxter in English, poor signal made worse by het from perpetually off-frequency VIETNAM, as WHRI has never figured out this could be a problem; it registers 9840 available for very long hours (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** VATICAN [non]. 11890, March 29 at 1317, surprised to hear good signal with YL in Luso-Portuguese summarizing Pope`s Palm Sunday homily, interspersed with clips of the original in Italian. HFCC A-15 shows two Vatican Radio relays on 11890: 1228-1300 (Sat -1315) Chinese via Tinang, Philippines, and 1315-1400 daily in Vietnamese, due west from TINIAN, both USG facilities, violating Separation of Church and State; standard remarx. It should be hard to confuse Portuguese with Vietnamese! What possible target, really? Nothing but former colonies Timor, Macau, and Goa etc., in India?? Maybe a feed mixup.
From now thru `Holy Week` there are bound to be special VR broadcasts, but the Hitlist link and also found on the Listen menu at
is blank tho it loads. Other pages are 404 as apparently VR has revamped their website (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
This report despatched at 1623 UT March 29
* ALBANIA. A-15 has just begun, but not every station switches to new schedule immediately. March 29 at 0128 I am looking for R. Tirana on 9850, where it`s to be in English to North America at shifted time of 0130-0200 --- but no signal here past 0133, nor on other possibilities 9855, 7465 or 7425.
9855, March 29 at 0226, R. Tirana IS is on here! This is the winter timing to be abandoned, and the frequency registered for the Albanian broadcast at 2300-2400 (unchecked yet). But no English starts at 0230, just keeps playing IS on fair signal past 0233 when I quit. Maybe this will all be straightened out by UT Tuesday at 0130, since there is no English broadcast on UT Monday anyway (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** AUSTRALIA. 17840, March 29 at 0119, R. Australia is still here as A-15 starts, poor signal, rather than alternate 13630. 17840 has however been holding up well late into the night on occasion (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA. 6165, March 29 at 0120, open carrier/dead air, while English is nominal on 6000; 0134 now both are modulating with an Arnie Coro non-DX talk (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** EGYPT. 12070, March 29 at 0110, new R. Cairo A-15 frequency, open carrier/dead air, with lite whine; nothing more on 12080 or 12035
9965++, March 29 at 0115, R. Cairo, Arabic, undermodulated, whine, very good level, with flutter. This one unchanged. Off to hi side
9315.0, March 29 at 0118, open carrier/dead air, poor-fair; by 0227 it`s only poor. This would be the 0200-0330 English frequency, ex-9860 where there is nothing. Another alternate registered is 9720
13850+, March 29 at 0228, Qur`an? suptorted, fair with flutter, R. Cairo ex-9905, Off to hi side, not as much as 9965 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** INDIA. 11985, March 29 at 0111, S Asian music, fair with flutter, gone at 0132 recheck. HFCC A-15 shows it`s AIR Sinhala service only until 0115, 250 kW, 174 degrees from Delhi site (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OMAN [and non]. 11650, March 29 at 0113, R. Sultanate of Oman is still here, in Qur`an, with CCI in Chinese which is CRI, Urumqi, East Turkistan on A-15 schedule; 11650 is not registered for Oman in A-15; instead at 00-02, 9500 or 9650 or 12015 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** PERU. 5980, March 29 at 0105, JBA carrier, only one, it seems, i.e. R. Chaski. Sharp cutoff at 0106:38.5* leaving nothing, as BBC is now gone from 5980 UAE for A-15. Furthermore, no ACI from 5985 WRMI --- tho registered as available, not yet in use. This is 11.5 seconds later than a binite ago when last checked, i.e. slipping average 5.75 later per uniday (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SRI LANKA. 11905, March 29 at *0114:12, carrier on, 0114:46 musical prélude starts (not exactly an IS?), 2+1 timesignal ends at 0115:12.5, SLBC sign-on; fair with flutter (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1766 monitoring: confirmed on WA0RCR, 1860-AM, UT Sunday March 29 from 0315. Also confirmed Saturday March 28 at 2130 on Global 24 via 9525 BULGARIA: see previous report:

** U S A. 11920, March 29 at 0111, Family Radio in Spanish, fair; new A-15 WRMI sked shows this at 01-02, plus RTI Spanish at 02-03 (and another Taiwan Spanish at 03-04 on 7730). At 0225, 11920 is fair-good airing Chinese lesson for Spanish speakers.
11825, UT Sun March 29 at 0112, `Travel with Rick Steves`, which is Global 24 via WRMI, VG (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1590, March 29 at 0128 UT, general newscast, 0130 ``ESPN Radio`` and ``KGAS Carthage`` ID inserted, thank you very much, and into sports talk. Can we depend on all ESPN affils to ID like this on the semihour? Initially dominating from SE/NW, soon fades down as if power cut. But its official March sunset was an hour earlier at 0030 UT (April: 0045 UT). KGAS is 2500/128 watts U1. Carthage is in E Texas, just SW of Shreveport LA (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** VIETNAM [non]. 12005, March 29 at 0110, VOV English to N America is back here for A-15, via Woofferton UT, ex-6175 where there is nothing now. Good with flutter, but there is CCI underneath: probably VOA Deewa Radio via Sri Lanka, still on B-14 frequency tho it should not be, and presumably will be gone by tomorrow (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
UNIDENTIFIED. 1460, March 29 at 0125 UT tune-by, ID as ``The Outlaw, non-stop country music``, loops about SSE/NNW. Can`t find that slogan for any 1460 in the NRC AM Log. The only country station around here is KCWM in Hondo TX, but I also can`t find any `Outlaw` branding on website. So I bring up their stream at 0415 UT. At 0423 they do utter ``The World`s Best Country Music`` as on website. So where is The Outlaw?? Outlaw County is a SiriusXM channel (60), any relation? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
This report dispatched at 0453 UT March 29
** BRAZIL. 11710 trace, 11745 & 11815 poor, March 28 at 0546 check, crackling spurs still emanate from the defective 11780.15v 250 kW transmitter of RNA/RNB (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGESET)
** BULGARIA. 9525, March 28 at 2012, as expected, no signal audible here from Global 24 via Secretbrod, so at 2055 I tune in the Twente, Netherlands remote instead. No signal there either! Just wideband whine on the 31m band, something wrong with the receiver? But I leave it on 9525 and it pops on at *2057. As a second-hand reception, I can`t be sure whether that was what the transmitter did, or the receiver did. In time to hear Blues Radio International closing with Boca Ratón FL address; 2059 ``Global 24 on WRMI`` ID (NOT: still using old recordings). And into `Feature Story News` for 5 minutes starting with the NYC fire which makes me suspect it`s from yesterday. 2105 Global 24 Radio promo, like us on Facebook; and very familiar music fill interspersed with ads: ``RESPECT``, 2108 SDR from Universal et al., ``Mashed Potatoes``; 2111 ``Mrs. Robinson``; 2114 Ears to Our World; 2115 waltz theme and `News Review from European News Network`. Lead story
refers to plane crash being ``yesterday``, so apparently recorded three days ago, usual Wednesday produxion. So far reception via Twente has been very good! But at 2121, some local noise starts cutting on and off irregularly, mostly on, like something shorting in the electrical lines around, bad transformer. 2123 lets up a little, then worsens again. 2126, ENN concludes with ``Out on a Song``, some retro artist. 2129 promo another ENN program (which isn`t on G24 or SW, AFAIK), `Anything Goes`, on Mondays and Fridays.
2130.5 Global 24 ID ``on 9395 kHz``, also outdated; 2131:09 (with webcast delay), start WORLD OF RADIO 1766 and played to completion at 2200. The noise bursts continue to QRM. At 2145 ACI also cuts on, i.e. 9530 with HCJB`s Radio Akhbar Mufriha, 250 kW, 27 degrees from ASCENSION. I`ve been listening with relatively wide (default?) bandwidth on the remote, but now narrow it to lessen this and off-tune to 9524, which helps. Still it gets worse at 2155.
What about from next week in A-15? G24/BUL still isn`t registered. HFCC shows that HCJB/ASC will be gone from 9530, but 9525 will have CRI Russian from 19 to 21, aimed NW from Beijing site, so that will be no good for Bulgaria around Eurasia during that bihour (this Saturday start scheduled at 1800 with two hours of `The Rock Pile`). Will WOR stay at 2130 or shift to 2030? TBA (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CANADA. 7230.0-LSB, March 28 at 0552, XL3A is making his contact #710 in the WPX DX Contest, but whence? shows: XL3A, Ron Vander Kraats, 9 Jopling Avenue South, Islington, ON M9B 3P4, Canada; QSL: VE3AT --- who, AAMOF, has exactly the same name and address. But XL3A is so much more exotic a prefix. Hambands have continued to be crammed this weekend tnx to the contest, but with the MARTINIQUE log, this is about the extent of my monitoring of it (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CHINA. CNR1 jammers, morning of March 28:
17830, March 28 at 1418, CNR1 jammer, poor with heavy flutter. Had not noticed this inband one before, but I bet it`s against VOA Tibetan --- yes, Aoki shows via Tinang, Philippines, this hour only
17585, March 28 at 1418, CNR1 jammer, fair with heavy flutter. This one is vs VOA Tibetan via Lampertheim, Germany
16920, March 28 at 1418, CNR1 jammer, good with heavy flutter
15970, March 28 at 1419, CNR1 jammer, good with flutter
15745, March 28 at 1419, CNR1 jammer, good with heavy flutter
14980, March 28 at 1421, CNR1 jammer, fair-good with flutter
14920, March 28 at 1421, CNR1 jammer but dead air until 1422 modulation, good with flutter
12560, March 28 at 1424, CNR1 jammer, fair with flutter
** KUWAIT. 17550, March 28 at 2004, R. Kuwait ID in passing, Arabic, fair, registering 27-38 dbu on the PL-880 with short random wire; by 2023 it`s down to 20-35 dbu, and keeps weakening. Believe it`s the first time this year I have heard this strange service to Central & Western North America at 20-24 UT. Riding the MUF, reception will continue to vary widely from day to day. And still NO signal on 15540 for the 18-21 English service, transmitter defunct? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** MARTINIQUE. 7279.5-LSB, March 28 at 0549, ham TO4C making quick contest QSOs, having reached #923 sequentially. Fortunately always utters call fonetikaly, but where in the world is that? Must find himself in Region 2 to reside in this bandpart. shows:
TO4C, Richard Brokenshaw M5RIC, QSL Via M0OXO, OQRS Preferred, Martinique. Active from Martinique NA-107 from:
26 March - 01 April 2014 including an entry in CQWW WPX SSB.
22 March - 29 March 2015 including an entry in CQWW WPX SSB.
No doubt he got that odd call to diversify the prefixes available rather than plain old FM- something (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 1560, afternoon of March 28, KEBC OKC is still duplicating 1520 KOKC --- did they break contract with NBC Sports and can`t go back? There is certainly no need for // 1560 as long as 1520 is funxioning. Ben Dawson provides more:
``1520 back on the air! With our new folded vertical radiator and a slightly modified simple L network. Makes 10 kW with 1.07 VSWR. Jack calls it a "Slant-loaded Network".
The Jack he refers to is Jack Sellmeyer, distinguished Texas consulting engineer who cobbled together the temporary lash up.``
I assume a ``folded vertical`` is a bit of a joke, considering that`s what the tornado left them with (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 90.1, March 28 just before 1500 UT, KUCO remarx during a pledge drive, after announcer and GM Brad Ferguson stumbles over triple-station ID, that the heritage KCSC call, originally on 90.1, will be applied to the 95.9 Woodward relay effective Monday = March 30, ex-KZCU. UCO acquired it from KCCU Lawton, which was unwilling / unable to run it properly, get rid of persistent IADs (intermittent audio dropouts) marring the 95.9 transmission which was 100% relay of KCCU. (Or rather one time when I was in range --- can`t get it in Enid ---, the dropouts were extremely regular, like clockwork.)
It`s seemed odd that for the past few months since KUCO took it over, IDs have continued to be as KZCU, obviously based on the ex-owner`s home calls. Thought they might go for ``KUCW`` which seemed to be available. Then later in the afternoon during Met Opera intermission, local host Lane Whitesell (who`s awfully hard to find on the website, spell-checking), says KCSC calls are effective Wednesday = April 1, which seems more likely (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** PHILIPPINES. 9800, March 28 at 1427, VOA Korean usual good signal but somewhat distorted and carrier wobble, soul music. Is Tinang site, and has had such problem before (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** RWANDA. I make a point of monitoring the final semihour in existence of the Kigali relay station, which is AWR French on 17800: tune-in at 2000 to very good signal, opening as Radio Mondiale Adventiste. First segment is ``emission de santé`` (which means health, an Adventist preoccupation, not saintliness), advice about STDs. 2007 break for address in Côte d`Ivoire, music box; 2009.5 AWR theme, another talk.
I haven`t been logging the dbmu readings displayed by the PL-880 which is now hooked up to a random wire under the eaves on the porch, but this time I do and compare it to the few other signals on 16m; larger ranges indicate more fading:
17800 AWR Kigali registers 34-46 dbu
17790 WRMI is a bit weaker at 38-45 dbu, and softer modulation
17730 RHC is stronger at 43-51 dbu, but sounds weaker, undermodulated
17550 Kuwait is 27-38 dbu and weakening (see separate log)
Noise floor on unoccupied 17 MHz channel is 15-17 dbu
At 2024 I start recording the last six minutes to be heard from Kigali, ever:
2025, e-mail Abidjan address, again. I am trying to copy it: La Radio Mondiale Adventiste, La Voix de l`Espérance, 08 Boite Postale 1551(?), Abidjan 08, Côte d`Ivoire? but not sure, so try to look it up. Nowhere in the WRTH entries for AWR. Nor that I can find on website, with podcasts of this and many previous French broadcasts, where you are expected to use e-mail only but not the `local` address announced: --- They say to be sure to make the e-mail in minuscule (lower case) only --- no, e-mail addresses are NOT case-sensitive. Google search on voix esperance cote divoire leads to a station of the same name on FM 101.6, but it`s Methodist!!
2026, AWR theme and other music, mentioning Jesus, hymn, address yet again. Says back tomorrow at same time, nothing about new frequency or new site! (But HFCC A-15 shows the 2000 French broadcast will be on 9610 via Nauen, and 17570 via Issoudun.) ``He leadeth me`` tune is cut off at 2029 and carrier stays on another minute+ until 2030:03****. Goodbye forever. (Ironically, DW`s own usage of Kigali ended a few hours earlier when I couldn`t monitor.) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SPAIN. 17755, March 28 at 2010, no signal, nor 21620, which REE was reportedly using already from A-15 schedule this Saturday starting at 1500 per Ivo Ivanov; 15490 is good with flutter; at 2021 that signal ranges 36-47 dbu without flutter, but at 2022 the flutter resumes during silly ballgame; suspect this flutter is from two transmitters beating rather than propagation. 2032 check, now I can detect a JBA carrier on 17755, and 9620 is also audible along with 15490 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 650, March 28 at 1855 UT on caradio, finding that IBOC from 640 KWPN Moore OK is off, is anything making it on 650? Yes, JBA country music! Can it be WSM Nashville, a megameter away, just a few minutes after our local mean noon? What else could it be? I stop and get out the PL-880 which fortunately I have along to check out something on SW. With BFO and rotating it, I can barely DF this 650 signal to east-west, which chex for WSM. But there is also a second even weaker carrier. That would most likely be talker KGAB in SE Wyoming, which has been known barely to make it here on groundwave (if KLTT 670 Denver can, why not?). But is WSM by skywave or groundwave? D-layer absorption should be taking it out, but ground conductivity between there and here is nothing special, and I don`t even get Memphis on 560 or 600 in daytime. BTW, NRC AM Log shows there are only 7 stations on 650 in the entire conterminous US, which is about as close as we can get
to a `clear` channel any more.
Mandatory check of 720 as well: at 1906 UT March 28, I do have a SAH, presumably KSAH TX and WGN IL (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
This report dispatched at 0058 UT March 29
** BRAZIL. 11815 & 11745 & 11710, March 27 at 0530, crackling spurs from 11780.1v RNA/RNB are still audible (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 1560, March 27 at 1834 UT, CBS News Update, ``1520 KOKC`` ID and back to talk show. This is really KEBC Del City, which was switched to KOKC programming when 1520 went down by tornado; but once KOKC was back already 18 hours before now, I expected 1560 would resume its own sports talk programming. Not. Compared on a portable radio to 1520, they are slightly apart by a reverb. As yet unchecked 1520 at ToH, whether that also dually ID with KEBC 1560 (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** ROMANIA. 9730, March 28 at 0051, RRI with ``Autumn Leaves`` instrumental then lyrix in presumed Romanian, but cut off for Spanish announcement, introducing final piece in musical segment ``Lemon Tree``, also in Romanian. VG here but rolling fades, while // 9525 is much weaker. This is contrary to expectations as 9730 is listed as 247 degrees from Tiganeshti, while 9525 is 280 degrees from Galbeni, much closer to USward for this 0000-0057 emission; B-14 sked about to be passé (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SUDAN [and non]. 15550, March 27 at 0542, tone jamming against nothing, while weaker signal on 15555 with talk modulation is presumably R. Dabanga via MADAGASCAR starting at 0430. Ivo Ivanov had noted the shift from 15550 to 15555 on March 26. Jammer foiled again! This might also apply to the 1530 UT broadcast. R. Tamazuj, preceding at 0400 & 1500, isn`t always jammed, why? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 7280.0, March 27 at 0545, huge AM signal with VG modulation too, from W0VMC, Robert, closing QSO with motto ``may the fleas from a thousand camels fly up your armpits``, some deep fades and selective distortion which SSB would avoid. Was in contact with KZ9TJE, Tim, weaker but also AM. W0VMC is stronger than Algeria via France on 7295-AM. lookups:
W0VMC, Robert M Smith, 661 Polk St Croix Rd, New Richmond, WI 54017.
But there is no KZ9TJE; maybe it was KC9TJE? No fonetix. But she`s a Jennifer, not a Tim. O well (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 17790, March 27 at 1425, no signal from RAN via WRMI. Should have been audible, like 17730 Cuba, 17775 California, 17840 Romania (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1150, March 28 at 0031 UT, VG signal with Yahoo Sports Radio --- surely it`s the typical night coverage of KSAL Salina KS, but not primarily a sports station. Yes, their schedule for 7-10 pm CDT weekdays just says ``Yahoo Radio Sports`` --- close. YSR is not among the numerous affiliations listed for KSAL in the 2014-2015 NRC AM Log (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1370, March 28 at 0043 UT, good signal with talk show in English, mentions Houston, loops N/S, gone by 0047 UT. Fits for KJCE Rollingwood (Austin) TX, official sunset 0045 UT in March (0100 in April), and power decimated from 5000 to 500 watts while pattern reduced from broadly northward to a bit to the northwest. (Still no sign of my nearest 1370, KGNO Dodge City KS) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1500, March 28 at 0035 UT, Spanish sermon from N/S, poor signal, attenuated KSTP no problem, but other QRM until KSTP fades up at 0041. Monolog sermon from TX points to KMXO in Merkel as in my March 24 morning log. But where is the nostalgic 1 kW and closer daytimer KJIM Sherman TX? Its March sunset was 0030 UT (April: 0100 UT). KMXO, 250 watt daytimer March sunset: 0045 UT (April: 0115 UT) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1520, March 28 at 0027 UT, the quickly-revived KOKC OKC has heavy SAH and CCI in English from an inseparable station, presumed KYND Cypress (Houston) TX with CRI relay, 25 kW daytimer. By 0034 UT when I am still getting CRI via KGBC on 1540, the 1520 is gone leaving KOKC in the clear, so must have signed off at proper time (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1540, March 28 at 0034 UT, discussion in English about university studies abroad for Chinese, and with that familiar Chinese accent we hear from many CRI speakers; so it`s obviously KGBC Galveston TX, likely still on 2.5 kW day power despite official sunset of 0030 UT (April: 0045 UT). It`s mostly separable from Tejano KEDA San Antonio which still dominates 1540 here at night contrary to its legal DA pattern. By 0047 UT I am ready to check for // 9570 via ALBANIA, but no more 1540 CRI, I guess finally on 250 watt night power (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1590, March 28 at 0024 UT, ranchera music from NNW/SSE, or rather gospel since 0027 lyric includes `salvación`. Good signal overcomes birdie around here impeding daytime reception of KVGB. This points to KMIC Houston, which as in DXLD 15-04 had converted from Disney to Radio Aleluya. The hymn is cut off at 0030* UT sharp, which must have been official FCC sunset; no sign-off, not even a semi-sign-off! Yes, 0030 UT is the March SS; April: 0045 UT. At least, here`s one station which takes its responsibilities seriously, from ND day to totally direxional SE into the Gulf at night, both 5 kW (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
UNIDENTIFIED. 860, March 27 at 0125 UT, Spanish talk from the SSW, and Spanish music from the SSE (or opposites, unlikely), during KKOW fade which is back up at 0126 UT. Plenty of Mexicans on 860, guess one is Monterrey, and there are three in Yucatán and Quintana Roo (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
UNIDENTIFIED. 1120, March 27 at 1834 UT on caradio at local mean noon, I`m getting a very weak SAH, indicating two carriers interfering. I count it at 30 per 5 seconds = 360/minute = 6 Hz apart. No DFing possible, but there are really only two possibilities anywhere near: KMOX St Louis and KTXW Manor/Austin TX. (Remember I was definitely getting WOAI 1200 in the daytime recently.) Unless KETU Tulsa carrier is still running, but much attenuated from 10 kW. KLIM Limón CO, 250 W daytimer is still listed but ``silent since 10/2002``! A bit further out there is also a 10 kW daytimer in Clinton MS, WTWZ, which would be a fantastic daytime catch (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
UNIDENTIFIED. 11843-USB, March 27 at 1352, colloquial Spanish 2 way intruders, poor signals, but in the clear past 1400 with nothing AM on 11840 or 11845 --- until R Liberty Russian via PHILIPPINES comes on 11840 late at *1401 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
This report despatched at 0418 UT March 28
** ANGUILLA. 6090, March 27 at 0147 check, CBB is on (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** GERMANY [and non]. D-AIPX is the unique call of the plane crashed into the Alps, as I have NEVER heard mentioned on any of the news about it. I had to look it up on Referring to it as ``Flight U9525`` is totally ambiguous as the same route and flight number has been and will be carried out daily by a variety of other aircraft which, let us hope will not crash (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** MEXICO. 970, March 27 at 0129, weak Spanish station from SW, fortunately close to the null against local adjacent 960 KGWA. ID as Radio Madera, automated timecheck for 6:29 by YL voice, mentions FM 96.1, back to music; 0132 next break another full ID mentions Chihuahua, 6:31 TC, more music; some CCI from an ABC station in English, NW/SE but mostly nullable; 0135 yet another break with ID, ads, gobierno del estado PSA; promo a show lunes a viernes 6 a 7 de la mañana; 0137 auto YL TC for 6:37; 0140 gone. No sign of XEJ Juárez which we have not heard for months and believed to be off the air.
Instead it is the other Chihuahuan on 970, as in Cantú: XESW, Radio Madera, La Mera Mera, +FM 96.5 [sic], Cd. Madera, 5000 watt daytimer. IRCA agrees, yet schedule as 14-05 UT.
Cantú also linx to station website
which acknowledges that it is on 96.1, not 96.5; and the 5-letter call for FM, XHESW is more like what I heard announced.
Where is Ciudad Madera (Wood City), anyway? It`s not in my Rand McNally; a larger atlas shows it in the remote west-central Chihuahua mountains, not far from the Sonora state line. And Cantú has this as the only radio station in the town, altho the website shows sibling outlets with corporate HQ in Chihuahua capital.
A strange thing on the schedule, auto-displaying for Friday already: among the programs with titles are four other blox labeled SIN PROG., apparently meaning ``without programming`` --- so do they axually take breaks off the air? Those are at 07:00-07:30, 09:00-13:30, 15:00-16:00, 16:30-21:00 local, which per the TCs heard is still MST = UT -7, to become MDT = UT -6 the first Sunday in April, like the rest of Mexico beyond the Border starting a quadriweek later than in El Norte. No, a full-week program grid shows no such breaks:
Also linx to the cheesecake-prone state journal
I`m wondering if Quintana Roo, since it alone last year switched to EST = UT -5 to be in step with tourists from eastern USA, will also switch to EDT = UT -4, better late than never, on April 5? Here`s a handy Mexico timezone map along with adjacent USA, showing current but not future situation, and linx to others:
Anyhow XHESW does have live streaming. And per Cantú, there is only one TV channel in Madera, relay Televisa-2 Canal de las Estrellas, XHMAC on channel 7 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** NORTH AMERICA. 6876-AM, March 27 at 0055, as I tune in, music stops and synthetic YL with ```` address twice; fair signal, back to music, still at 0103, but off at 0135 check. Tnx to notification from John Poet a sesquihour earlier that the relay had just started. It was heard better by Stephen C. Wood in Massachusetts as late as 0110 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 1520, March 27 at 0055 UT, I`m surprised to find a VG signal from KOKC, already back on the air within 24 hours of its towers being destroyed by tornado. Item from CBS News about a procedure the FDA has approved to turn brown eyes blue by messing with melanin levels. Then PSA from Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotix, 0056 ``News-Talk 1520, K-OKC``.
How did they do it? Somehow load the single tower which was not downed but merely broken in two? Or swift change to some other site? Sounds like full power, in fact better than it had been before the disaster! There is less CCI from Rochester, but at 0112 UT, a tell-tale het on the hi side, no doubt Saudi Arabia, 1521, which I had not heard since sometime last fall. Presumably KEBC gets to resume its normal programming on 1560, but just after sunset it`s already lost in the QRM.
Paul B Walker forwards the answer: ``From KOMA Engineer Mike Fields via the I Take pictures of transmitter sites facebook group:
"we are on the air at 1520 kHz with new folded vertical radiator and a slightly modified simple L network. Makes 10 kW with 1.07 VSWR"
They are using a portion of the only remaining tower from 1520, the only one that didn`t collapse because of the tornado``
Regarding the additional info about this in my last report: strangely enough the story from Epoch Times is the Falungong, responsible for Sound of Hope and consequently pervasive ChiCom jamming all over SW (credits AP however as main source of KOKC story).
As for this one:
``They have also been in the middle of a major rehab of the station``:
Oops, the link went to some other station`s PSRA notification. One more number got cut off, should be, paste back together if necessary:
This STA expires May 11, 2015. I imagine another one will be requested! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. So much for KWTV`s putting CBS Evening News on KSBI when pre-empted on KWTV itself: March 26 at 2230 UT, KWTV RF 39 is running local news mainly about tornado aftermath, both on 9.1 and 9.2, while KSBI RF 23, 52.1 (tho there is no 52.2), is in normal programming of some old sitcom rerun. At least tonight we do have NBC News on KFOR RF 27, and ABC on KOCO RF 7. KFOR website announced that the missed NBC primetime shows last night would be played overnight on coming Saturday and Sunday.
One other anomaly noted: RF 29 KTUZ, which has Telemundo on 30.1, Univisión KUOK on 36.1, and Estrella TV KUOK-CD on 48.1, instead is black and silent but fully powered on 48.1 around 2230 UT, but back in business as ``KOCY`` by 0220 UT March 27. I was suspecting the low-power RF 48 transmitter, if it exist, may have sustained antenna damage as well. There was tornado wreckage in other parts of OKC than just Moore, tho we hear little about it (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** PERU [and non]. 5980, March 27 at 0057, JBA carrier; my streetlite fires up at 0058; just before 0100, 5980 carrier is joined by a second one slightly offset causing a double-het with BFO, i.e. R. Chaski first, and BBC/UAE the second. Chaski cuts off about 0106:27* which is 15.5 seconds later than three nights ago, averaging 5+ seconds per (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SAUDI ARABIA. 1521, March 27 at 0112, tell-tale het against 1520 as I am surprisingly hearing KOKC already back on air after tornadic destruxion [see OKLAHOMA]. Should I call it UNIDENTIFIED, when it has to be the 2-megawatt pilot of trans-Atlantic DX? Quickly stepped thru the rest of the band at 9 kHz intervals, but the only other TA carrier was on 1503 at 0117. Identity of that is not obvious at all: biggest ones are 25 kW in Egypt and 200 kW in Iran. Soon is gone the 1521 het. Some other guys were hearing this last night with KOKC gone (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SRI LANKA. 11905, March 27 at *0113:10, SLBC carrier cuts on for about 10 seconds; this seems to be SOP as I have heard it before. Then back to stay from *0114:11; add prélude music at 0114:47; 2+1 timesignal ends at 0115:11.5, sign-on announcement. Only fair signal with flutter (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 7505+, March 27 at 0146, no signal from WRNO when it is nominally on during prime-time (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 970, March 27 at 0134 UT, as I am concentrating on XESW, see MEXICO, some NW/SE CCI IDs in passing like KXYL. Must really have been KSYL in Alexandria LA, 1/1 kW U2. Probably the same one as at 0130 UT with ABC News, per affiliation info in NRC AM Log (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
