Glenn Hauser logs February 18-19-20-21 2015

** CANADA [and non]. 800, Feb 21 at 0139 UT, with KQCV OKC mostly nulled, station in English with Leamington ad, i.e. CKLW in nearby Windsor, Ont., soon IDing as ``AM 800, CKLW, Bell Media``, temp as -12 C expecting to ascend to -8 (tomorrow`s hi?). Then news of a missing man. Now, nothing from usual occupant of KQCV null, XEROK with 3x(?) the power and almost twice as close, as sometimes happens; are they off or QRP or what? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CHINA. 11720, Feb 21 at 1459, Firedragon jammusic mixing with algo, poor and continues past 1500 hourtop. Vs. IBB Tibetan via Kuwait this 15-16 hour only. Much weaker than VOK IS on 11710 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIEST)
** EGYPT. 12035, Feb 21 at 0117, R. Cairo, fair with flutter, dead air in ``Spanish`` service; didn`t get around to checking the other frequencies tonight (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** GERMANY. The annual special broadcast of Radio Öömrang is presumably imminent at 1600-1659 UT Sat Feb 21 on 15215 via Nauen (or Issoudun?). AFAIK there has been no specific confirmation of this year`s broadcast, but since 2009y at least, it has always been on this date at this time, and 15215 has been the frequency the past few years. If you don`t hear it there, try elsewhere on the 19m band. HFCC has a registration, probably wooden, for 500 kW 315 degree Arabic at 1630-1700 from UAE on 15215. While it`s mostly in Frisian (the point of the event), there have been brief bits in English, and also in high German.
For a compilation of last year`s reports about it see under GERMANY:
Also February issues of previous years.
This also has something to do with an annual event on Amrum island, involving fire. Search on Amrum for further info, alternate spelling of the double-umlaut name (Glenn Hauser, OK, 1535 UT Feb 21, dxldyg via DX LISTENING DIGEST
So among many others I am standing by on 15215 from 1559 Feb 21: with BFO I can detect a very weak carrier on at *1559:20, and a very big carrier on from *1600:00 --- but never any modulation! As I leave a receiver on it for the entire hour until 1700:05*. So, it`s a bust! Site Issoudun or Nauen forgot to bring up an audio source? What will they do now? Feb 21 is the significant celebration date, so rescheduling it for another date less than 365 away would hardly suffice. Shame. Meanwhile, Roger found this previous item about plans for this year`s broadcast; the instigator looking for more people to help with it:
What he really needed was competent operation thruout the chain, eliminating some weakest link (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** GUYANA. 3290-, Feb 21 at 0706, JBA carrier from V. of Guyana is detectable again unlike last night (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** KUWAIT. 21540, Feb 21 at 1457, R. Kuwait back on the air today, fair signal with ME Music (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 1360- & 1420+, Feb 21 at 0130 UT, spurs from strongest local 1390 KCRC are still barely detectable making low audible hets against proper stations, and DFing toward KCRC site (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** PERU [and non]. 5980, Feb 21 at 0102, JBA carrier(s), with wobble on BFO, hard to tell if two carriers or just propagation, but listening very intently, at 0102:59.5* signal weakens a bit as one of them apparently goes off, i.e. R. Chaski, leaving BBCWS via UAE as usual. Last check of this was 8 days earlier, Feb 13 when the same happened at 0102:10*, i.e. 49.5 seconds earlier. Divided by 8, that gives average of 6.2 seconds later per 24 hours, very close and certainly within margin of error to the 5.83 seconds previously computed for R. Chaski`s sliding autotimer (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SAINT LUCIA. I am acting, again this year, as the PR Director and QSL Manager for the second annual St. Lucia Independence Special Event put on by the J6 Portable Group.
We will be using the call: J64SLI / 36
We will commence operations on UT 21 Feb and cease operation on UT 23 Feb, 2015 (although we may be testing a few hours before beginning the actual event...)
Our QTH will be on the beach in St. Lucia, using numerous Buddipole arrays and various home-brew dipoles. The plan as present is to have at least four operating positions active at all times; but we will see how that goes.
We will be using various modes including CW, SSB, PSK-31 and RTTY and will operate as many bands as possible, depending as one would expect on solar conditions. Our St. Lucia Independence Spl Event is to be a solely QRP (5 Watts or less) event and will be operated using only solar power!
We will respond to both Amateur contacts and SWL reports. The requirements for direct confirmation are as follows:
USA: SASE needs to be included.
Europe (or elsewhere): An SAE and 2 US Dollars or 2 Euros are required or confirmation will be via the Bureau. Just a note here: we prefer no IRC's as they are difficult to get the Post Office to allow us to use them.
Address info is on a number of DX sites, like ARRL DX News etc. But, also on my QRZ page and search for WB5Q. It is at the top of my page. As far as frequencies, we will use any allowable band that is open, so a search of the DX Clusters would find us quickly, I am sure. [such as --- just search on J6]
We look forward to many more contacts this year. I sincerely appreciate your help in getting the word out about our Special Event. 73 de (WB5Q / John Carson, Norman, OK, Feb 14, WORLD OF RADIO 1761, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
21259.9-USB, Feb 21 at 1831, I am hearing J64SLI surprisingly well, considering it`s 5 watts or less; unfortunately operating simplex so caller pileups are on the same frequency. Always uses official ICAO fonetix for call, and do not hear a /36 as some are reporting; that may be informally added occasionally. In next few minutes copy contacts with AC7CZ, N8BI, W7BC, KO6E. I would give J64SLI a 5 & 6 on the PL-880 with random wire under the porch eaves (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SRI LANKA. 11905, Feb 21 at 0114, usual big open carrier from SLBC, music prélude from 0114:46.5, and timesignal ending at 0115:11.5 with only 3 pips, the first ones missing (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1761 monitoring: confirmed Friday February 20 at 2130.5 on WRMI 7570 & 15770, both sufficient. Next:
Sun 0231 on KVOH 9975
Sun 2300 on WRMI 11580
Mon 0400v on Area 51 via WBCQ 5110v
Mon 2201 on Global 24 via WRMI 9395
Tue 1200 on WRMI 9955
Wed 0401 on Global 24 via WRMI 9395
Wed 0730 & 1530 on Hamburger Lokalradio 7265-CUSB
Wed 1415 on WRMI 9955
Wed 2200 on WBCQ 7490v
Wed 2201 on Global 24 via WRMI 9395
Furthermore! WORLD OF RADIO has been added to the schedule of WA0RCR, 1860 kHz in Wentzville MO, the Gateway 160 Meter Radio Newsletter. Thanks to Vern Jackson for accepting WOR, and to John Carson, WB5Q for suggesting this. Vern says:
``Hi Glenn, The afternoon airing will begin somewhere around 2:30 PM Central [2030 UT]; depending on the lengths of many other segments; all of which vary from week to week. It will start at 2:37 PM on Sat. Feb. 21. WOR will air on 1860 again evening around 22:15 CST (0415 UT Sundays) after ARRL Audio News, which follows The Houston AMSAT Net. This will give wide area night coverage. 73, Vern Jackson``
Tnx, Vern! More info at
WA0RCR puts a reliable AM signal into Enid Saturday nights/UT Sundays (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 7490-, Feb 21 at 0105, WBCQ seems stable slightly on the lo side now that they are using the ex-9330 transmitter, as `Allan Weiner Worldwide` is underway. It`s the only frequency this week, nothing heard on 5110, 9330 or 15420; yet, Allan claims at 0118 that he`s on 7490, and 5110 plus webcast on and studio video via Also refers us to a countdown clock at the WBCQ website to the scheduled vote on Net Neutrality, his major topic tonight, in favor of, of course. Not until 0200 do a couple of callers inform him that 5110 is not really on the air as expected from Monticello. He`s still in the land of Fla (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 12105, Feb 21 at 0116 check, WTWW-3 is off, and so is WTWW-2, nothing on 9930 or 5085; just WTWW-1 on 9475 with the whites-only, males-only, dead-only, Scriptures for America.
9475, Feb 21 at 1504-1507, we are blessed with a few minutes of dead air before resuming harangues (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 880-CUSB, Feb 21 at 0137 UT, KHAC, (Tse Bonito NM but address in Window Rock AZ), ``the Voice of Hope`` program promo for something at 5-9 pm M-F, i.e. this very show; constantly cheating with 10 kW ND day instead of 430 watts night, per NRC AM Log which also shows a different slogan, now abandoned? ``Voice of Encouragement``. Also lists schedule as 08-24 EST, tho I also hear it as late as 02 EST; and all-night? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 990, Feb 21 at 0135, talk show with prompt ID as ``AM 990, KWAM`` Memphis TN, phone 800-801-8999 and apparently another similar number depending on whether you agree with Giuliani or not about Obama being anti-American. What a crock! Holding its own for a while vs XET and CBW; night pattern is WNW/ESE with 450 watts, while day pattern is tight E-W with 10 kW (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1530, Feb 21 at 0652 UT, romantic music in Spanish, 0655 UT Univisión América ID, Spanish PSAs including donate-your-car to a charity for the blind with an 800-number; 0657 UT another one promoting sex education for 14-19 year-olds, website sounded like but that goes nowhere; credit Texas Health Department about good diets; 0659 UT, 911 promo for lifesaving, YMCA, all in Spanish; before 0700 UT, only ID heard is for Univisión América, and into music.
Thruout, WCKY without Brother Scare has been hard to null, but this one is from the N/S and has to be KGBT Harlingen, RGV, TX. Its 10 kW night pattern shows essentially zero signal to the north:
While day pattern is 50 kW ND; hmmm, could it be? BTW, there is another SS Texan between us, circa Austin, per NRC AM Log, KZNX, Radio Mujer, 10000/220 watts U7 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1530, Feb 21 at 0701 UT, after logging KGBT from the south, I rotate the DX-398 to E/W, finding not WCKY, but church service announcements mentioning Little Rock, so it`s KVDW, England AR, 2.5 kW daytimer cheating again.
I was hoping to hear 1530 Colorado Springs CO, which per AM Switch, NRC DX News post-dated Feb 23, changed call Feb 5 from KCMN to KKHI, now Oldies 1530, and no longer on the I-25 Radio Network; but Wayne Heinen noted it was off the air as of Feb 13. Too, cheating would help get it here as before, 15 kW day power instead of 15 watts night. KKHI, alluding to hi-fidelity? was once the call of San Francisco`s premier classical music station on 1550, until June 20, 1994 when it became KPIX; thence KYCY, KFRC, and currently KZDG (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1725-CW, Feb 21 at 0618 UT, I am trying for a licensed 70-watt beacon in Massachusetts that Warren, K2ORS is reported to be running tonight. After off-tuning 11725 RNZI with BFO, down 10 MHz to 1725 to see if I can hear it on the FRG-7 with E-W longwire. Yes! A little better by 0630 UT, but barely in the noise level, such that I can copy only an occasional character, rarely two or more in a row. At one point, 0643 UT, I think I copy three letters in a row, so could that get me a QSL? We are asked not to publish them. May not be using the K2ORS ID here. The earlier notification about this I redistributed to the DXLD yg follows (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
Special licensed experimental CW beacon on 1725 kHz Friday night
I'll paste in the message that was sent to NDBLIST. This weekend is the monthly "coordinated listening event" that ndblist runs one weekend each month. Experimental beacons around 475 and other places are encouraged to be on the air. Warren K2ORS in MA put his on the air, on 1725 kHz. It's good copy here in NE Oregon around 0330 UT. There are fades but on peaks the whole message has been copied several times now. If you copy it please do not post it publicly, in order that others can have a legitimate chance to copy it, if a verification is desired. The CW is very slow and you could write down the dots and dashes and decipher them later, if needed. Note he gives an email address for verification requests. Steve NE Oregon (La Grande)
"Hi All, I am running an experimental beacon on 1725 kHz CW (under an FCC Experimental license), about 70W into an inverted-L. Likely tonight only as we are expecting ice storm over the weekend. Will QSL verifiable reports, send report to 73 Warren K2ORS" (Steve Ratzlaff, IRCA via DXLD)
UNIDENTIFIED. 1320, Feb 21 at 0131 UT, Spanish talk looping SSE/NNW, mentions Sonora, then fades vs all the CCI. Suspect KXYZ Houston, which is controlled by the ChiCom front running CRI English on 1520 and 1540 most of the time, while 1320 is supposed to be in Chinese; yet, NRC AM Log shows it as Ethnic/brokered/SS at least part of the time. Could a Houstonian confirm whether KXYZ is in Spanish evenings, or ever? Other possibility would be XECPN, Piedras Negras if my DF was off a bit (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
This report dispatched at 1918 UT February 21
** AUSTRALIA. 11590, Feb 20 at 1332, good signal from RBA playing Garfunkel`s ``Bridge Over Troubled Waters``, which is really about friendship, but no doubt projected by gospel huxters into something religious, imaginary friends. 1334 into Hindi talk mixed seamlessly with heavily Hindi-accented English about children`s welfare (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA. 4765, Feb 20 at 0341, R. Progreso good signal and modulation level but distorted (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** ECUADOR. 6050, Feb 20 at 0337, slow English talking about Ravi Shankar, some modulation distortion. So HCJB is still running the `Spotlight` quarter-hour in specialish English amongst all the Spanish and Kichwa (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** EQUATORIAL GUINEA [non]. 15190, Feb 19 at 2228, R. Africa Network via WRMI is supposedly religious, but filling some airtime with public-domain secular stuff: `(X-1)` oldtime radio show, outro dramatization of ``Nightfall`` by Isaac Asimov! who of course was an Atheist --- way to go!! NBC chimes and 2232 into gospel music, whew. I`ve never found anything like a program schedule via and still don`t (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** ETHIOPIA [non]. Starting February 20, 2015, a new radio station will start broadcasting on shortwave, Risala International.
Risala International will broadcast on Fridays from 1830-1900 UTC on 15165 kHz in the 19 meter band.

They are having an Islamic conference of some sort in Minneapolis on Feb 20-21. Main language on the homepage in Roman letters looks Somali, and Google translate agrees, but fails to translate except for a few words here and there! Could be the spelling is non-standard? Header also in another language, Amharic? Their videos of demonstrations in Minnesota are labeled Oromo. So the homepage text is probably in Oromo, which is why Google can`t translate it, not one of their languages, but related to Somali. Google translates Risala (or Risalah) from Arabic as ``Message``.
Site? Nothing at all in B-14 HFCC on 15165, nor in Aoki.
A station of this name existed log ago, possibly unrelated:
``In 1994, Islamic station Radio Al-Risalah commenced from Moscow, hiring airtime from Radio Moscow and the Bolshakovo, Kaliningrad station``
That was from a long article:
via RUSdx Aug 31, 2014 also via BC-DX
I posted the above to the DXLD yg at 1608 UT Feb 20, plus follow-ups. Then I monitor it myself:
15165, Feb 20 at *1828:50 carrier on, very poor, still open past 1830 until Horn-of-Africa music starts at 1830:13, later some talk audible, but far too weak to follow any further; confirmed at least that it has really started up. Weak signals at poor level are better: 15140 Oman, 15190 Philippines (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** GUATEMALA. 4055, Feb 20 at 0343, R. Truth, banjo variations on favorite theme ``Workin` on the Railroad``, segué some other song, rough modulation somewhat distorted. Feb 25 will be exactly one sesquidecade after R. Verdad`s first transmission (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** GUYANA. 3290, Feb 20 at 0644, zero signal, not even a carrier when we can normally detect V of Guyana with BBCWS relay; so off again (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** INDIA. 9380, Feb 20 at 1355, AIR National Channel is managing to modulate today! Fair with S Asian song (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** KUWAIT. 21540, Feb 20 at 1412, no signal from R. Kuwait, tho 21505 Sa`udi is propagating. Not on 21580 either (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 1120, Feb 19 circa 2130 UT, still open carrier/dead air from KEOR Catoosa/Sperry/Tulsa, for the 32nd day as audible on caradio by quietening of channel compared to noisier 1110; and also can hear KLEY 1130 modulation abutting the -10 carrier. But wait! It`s no longer KEOR. In NRC DX News Feb 23, David Yocis includes in his AM Switch column:
``1120 KEOR OK Catoosa – Call change to KETU (changed in database Feb. 2015 where it says the effective date was Nov. 21, 2012)``
How were we supposed to know, when it`s been broadcasting for a month at least, since January 19 without any modulation, not even IDs? (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SOMALILAND. 7120-, Feb 20 at 0327, open carrier with fair signal from R. Hargeisa, slightly on the lo side and not much QRhaM. 0331 music starts but just barely modulated; then turned up a little, military band presumably NA, but too late, cut to announcement at 0331.5, still undermodulated; 0333 Qur`an recognizable (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SOUTH AFRICA. 7285, Feb 20 at 0429, Sonder Grense with good signal in Afrikaans, apparent adstring, mentions ``50 Shades of Gray`` in English. Altho on until 07, it`s normally faded down or out before 06. There are now zero SW broadcasts in Holländisch per
but that doesn`t include pirates or The Mighty KBC which mixes in some Dutch commercials with English programming. So for widely disseminated broadcasts, the legacy colonial language Afrikaans will have to do from SAUK. I wonder if dentro-Netherlanders have any trouble understanding it. (Then there`s Frisian expected from the annual Öömrang broadcast, Sat Feb 21 at 16-17 on 15215 via Nauen.) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SUDAN. 7205, Feb 20 at 0332, very poor signal with QRM, presumably R. Omdurman ex-7200 as reported by Don Hosmer, MI, MARE, on Feb 12. I had heard it much better when on 7200 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SWAZILAND. 4775, Feb 20 at 0340, TWR music-box IS stands out against the CODAR, even tho at poor signal level; 0342 into talk in presumed Lomwe as scheduled daily for 16 more minutes, 50 kW at 3 degrees azimuth. (BTW I`m hearing nothing from Djibouti on 4780 --- is it really active?)(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** THAILAND. 9390, Feb 20 at 1358, fair signal better than adjacent 9395 Global 24, choral music, probably the national anthem:
but 1359 cut off for antenna change of HSK9, R. Thailand. Back on by 1400, with more flutter, for English news right away, no bells or formal sign-on (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 9800, Feb 20 at 1345, VOA Korean via PHILIPPINES, always good signal here far beyond target, and less hum than usual, during English lesson. Fun to note the sources they choose, such as today, going thru the song `Sunglasses at Night`` (by Corey Hart) explaining the idioms one by one, such as ``Don`t switch the blade on the guy in shades, oh no``. Hmmm, doesn`t Kim Jung-Un wear shades? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1761 monitoring: still no show at 2201 Thursday Feb 19 on Global 24 [see separate log]; and I missed checking the 0001 UT Friday on 9395, but probably; did anyone hear it? Next:
Fri 2130 on WRMI 7570 & 15770
Sat 0730 & 1530 on Hamburger Lokalradio 7265-CUSB
Sat 1000 on WRMI 5850
Sun 0231 on KVOH 9975
Sun 2300 on WRMI 11580
Mon 0400v on Area 51 via WBCQ 5110v
Mon 2201 on Global 24 via WRMI 9395
Tue 1200 on WRMI 9955
Wed 0401 on Global 24 via WRMI 9395
Wed 0730 & 1530 on Hamburger Lokalradio 7265-CUSB
Wed 1415 on WRMI 9955
Wed 2200 on WBCQ 7490v
Wed 2201 on Global 24 via WRMI 9395
** U S A. 9955, Feb 19 at 2209-2215+, WRMI is playing continuous variety of music, no announcements, presumably filler, tho an unfamiliar selexion. After daytime break, from *2200 block is supposedly Brother Scare. At 2234 something new in very slowly spoken Kriyol, now with lite pulse jamming. WRMI program schedule still dated January 1 now has carved out 2230-2300 Thursdays merely as ``Kreyol``. I`ve asked Jeff White what program it really is, exactly? Another mystery now on the schedule: ``Kloch desperans`` Sunday at 1145-1200: what is that and in what language? Turns out these are related:
Searching on that title, I find this already mentioned on WRMI FB January 8: ``WRMI Begins Weekly Creole Service --- As of January 8, 2015, WRMI will begin airing a 30-minute weekly segment of programming in the Creole language to Haiti at 5:30-6:00 pm Eastern Time on 9955 kHz shortwave. From 5:30-5:45 pm Thursdays, WRMI will air a program called "Kloch Desperans" ("Bells of Hope") presented by Father Andre Weedny. From 5:45-6:00 pm, the station will air a dramatized version of the Bible in Creole`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) See also EQUATORIAL GUINEA [non], and separate logs of Global 24
** U S A. 9395 via WRMI, Global 24 monitoring: after World of Radio disappeared from the previous Thu 2201 UT airing as `Dialogos Greece` kept running the last few weeks, this time Feb 19 I am checking at 2100 to confirm whether D.G. really starts at 2100, or later? Yes, it does. Recheck at 2200 Feb 19, Greek music is still playing when G24 cuts away from it this week, no ID or ad, right into European News Network with another replay of the evergreen show interviewing Dame Vera Lynn instead of any news. And at 2215: REPEAT the very same show again! So instead of a brand-new WOR we got two plays of a backup show. Previous weeks, D.G. ran until 2215 and then E.N.N.
More crashes to the same old fill music on 9395: Feb 20 at 0327, 1812 Overture is playing; recheck 0349 it`s about to climax with bells and cannons, when cut off for a Hobo Hanky ad (new one to me), then back to Bach. Propagation disturbance plunges the MUF, so by 0427, 9395 is nothing but a JBA carrier (while WRMI 7570 & 7455 are still very strong but somewhat diminished). Still JBA at 0646.
BTW, just before 2100 UT Feb 19 on 9395, there was a WRN promo for `Democracy Now`. I was not aware it`s on WRN, and indeed not found anywhere on the WRN North American schedule dated January 1. Also, I had assumed Vatican Radio was on WRN at 0545 UT, since we hear it on G24 following Israel Radio at 0530, which is on WRN --- but WRN shows their 0545 program is RNZI; needs updating? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 5110, UT Fri Feb 20 at 0432, WBCQ off, so VORW ex-pirate
is apparently a past-thing (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 12105, Feb 19 at 2233, WTWW-3 is off instead of Bibling; this transmission had been fairly reliable. WTWW-2 is also off, of course, no 9930 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1140, Feb 20 at 0652 UT, Coast to Coast, // KFAQ 1170 and countless others, but never synchronized; loops ENE/WSW and holding its own against XEMR. Suspect WRVA Richmond VA, and confirmed as such by several IDs at 0659 UT, ``Newsradio 1140, WRVA`` also with FM and HD frequencies, Fox `news`. 50 kW WRVA night pattern is NW/SE, so not much toward us (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1220, Feb 20 at 0655 UT, gospel music from the ENE/WSW, and C&W music from NNW/SSE, the latter soon replaced by caller speaking accented English, mentions DFW international airport, show host also with S Asian accent, so surely KZEE Weatherford TX, 200 watts at night, ``South Asian Radio`` a.k.a. ``Hot Pepper 1220`` per NRC AM Log. The other station would normally be perpetual cheater WSLM Salem IN, which is Classic Country, rather than gospel, so maybe this was really KOMC Branson MO, 1000/44 watts, ``Solid gospel`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
UNIDENTIFIED. 9355, Feb 20 at 1403, open carrier with hum, 1405 tone and off. Likely VOA Tinang tuning up for the 1430 Burmese broadcast (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
This report dispatched at 1845 UT February 20

** AUSTRIA. 11880, Feb 19 at 0634, choral music, poor-fair, roughly equal to 11870 WEWN, but have not noticed this before. 0641 Arabic talk but weakening. HFCC shows it`s AWR via Moosbrunn at 0600-0700, 300 kW at 190 degrees (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** BRAZIL. 11747 & 11813, Feb 19 at 0635, very poor but detectable crackling spurs from 11780.1v, RNB/RNA (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CHINA [and non]. 9495, Feb 19 at 1504, very heavy CCCCCCI from more than one CNR1 jammer an echo apart, along with target RFA Chinese via SAIPAN during this hour only, and just the same situation on 9440. CNR1 jammer has less QRM on 9680 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA. 15230 & 9820, Feb 19 at 1527 are the only two RHC frequencies heard, absent from 17730, 15370, 11760 which are all supposed to be on until 1600. Altho I forgot to check 9640. 15700 CRI relay is not missing (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** FRANCE. 7390, Feb 19 at 0639, RFI French under stronger carrier causing fast SAH; recheck 0656, RFI still on but the other carrier is already off (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** KURDISTAN [non]. 9400, Feb 19 at 1440, Denge Kurdistane has regained a fair enough signal to enable enjoyment of the Kurdish music concert; 1455 adding a recitation. I`m listening carefully at 1500 for a site switch as Ivo Ivanov has reported, and yes, about 1500:10 the signal drops dramatically, otherwise no break in the music. That`s when the `Secretbrod` site in BULGARIA now takes over from PRIDNESTROVYE. Perhaps in the Turkish target area the change is even less noticeable. At local range, he also hears it on 18800 = 2 x 9400 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** MEXICO. 700, Feb 19 at 1259, big hum looping NE/SW on open carrier, 1300 Spanish news starts without any ID. Possibly two different stations, but I doubt it: hummer would be XEGD, La Poderosa, Hidalgo del Parral, Chihuahua, 5/1 kW per IRCA & Cantú, 5/0.25 kW per WRTH (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** MEXICO. 740-, Feb 19 at 1245 UT, horrible low audible het to KRMG Tulsa as often the case on the low side, also in the evenings, but this time with SSB tuning to help, and nulling KRMG as much as possible (not a lot), I manage to copy some of the Spanish, mentioning ``noticias Torreón``, and later Coahuila, so that`s it: XEQN, R. Fórmula, 10/1 kW per IRCA, Cantú and WRTH (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** MEXICO. 900, Feb 19 at 1302, Chihuahua anthem concludes, full ID by XEDT 910 and XHDT 98.3 with 25 kW [but 5/1.5 or 1 kW on 900!], street address in Colonia Centro, Ciudad Chuauhtémoc, ``una estación de Cadena Hits`` and into ``el programa número uno de Chihuahua``, con música country en inglés. Earlier around 1230 I was hearing Spanish newscast on 900, probably XEOK Monterrey. Forget about XEW and its ``250`` kW (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 1000, Feb 19 at 1323 UT as I am tuning across KTOK OKC, quick carrier break, presumably late switch from night to day facility, as official FCC sunrise in Feb is 1315 UT (March: 1245 UT) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SUDAN [and non]. 15550, Feb 19 at 1537, Sudanese tone jammer is JBA here under R. Dabanga via VATICAN and WJHR USB FL. So jammer no longer way off on 15560 or previous 15555. Time for SMG to jump its frequency again (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1760 monitoring: confirmed on webcasts of: WBCQ 7490v, Wed Feb 18 at 2200; Global 24 via WRMI 9395, Wed Feb 18 at 2201.
WORLD OF RADIO 1761 monitoring: first airing confirmed on webcast of WRMI 9955, Thu Feb 19 at 0430; also on 9955 itself, Thu Feb 19 at 1330, good atop lite pulse jamming; tnx a lot, Arnie!
BTW, not a problem but an oddity: almost always before WOR starts on WRMI, following the gh/WRMI ID there is a brief snatch of extraneous fill music, as the ID runs a few seconds less than :30.
Fri 0001 on Global 24 via WRMI 9395
Fri 2130 on WRMI 7570 & 15770
Sat 0730 & 1530 on Hamburger Lokalradio 7265-CUSB
Sat 1000 on WRMI 5850
Sun 0231 on KVOH 9975
Sun 2300 on WRMI 11580
Mon 0400v on Area 51 via WBCQ 5110v
Mon 2201 on Global 24 via WRMI 9395
Tue 1200 on WRMI 9955
Wed 0401 on Global 24 via WRMI 9395
Wed 0730 & 1530 on Hamburger Lokalradio 7265-CUSB
Wed 1415 on WRMI 9955
Wed 2200 on WBCQ 7490v
Wed 2201 on Global 24 via WRMI 9395
** U S A. 9395, Feb 19 at 1229, Global 24 via WRMI playing fill music, 1812 Overture; next check 1331, still/again the same! During what should have been World Radio Network at 12, and `Democracy Now` at 13. `Upstate Radio Theater` has succeeded after 14, by 1431 check with Woodbury ad closing Bing Crosby Show of 9/18/34, then into `Sam Spade` of 11/28/48. That Bing date seems awfully familiar: Yes, the very same episode I logged last Nov 29 and Dec 4! Are they replaying the same Upstate Radio Theater over and over??
1501 as on Thursdays only, `Democracy Now` starts [again?] with headlines concerning Greece and whistleblowers. But at 1515 cut DN and back to Bach fill music, still so at 1536 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 11580, Feb 19 at 1232, WRMI is open carrier/dead air with hum, while Brother Scare is still modulating on 11825, 15770. At first I thought it was something else on 11825, ``Amazing Facts`` but that was just a clip and back to B.S. (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 690, Feb 19 at 1313 UT, KGGF Coffeyville KS with news about OK and KS, as ``Radio Results Group News``, a mouthful but that`s the real name of its local group including 3 FM stations:
which says, ``On the air since 1928, KGGF is truly one of America`s heritage radio stations``. I don`t see a program schedule, but they are also one of few stations that still signs off when they don`t have to, at local midnight, with a rotating patriotic song, and always closing with Taps just after 0600 UT (soon 0500 UT with DST). KGGF used to leave the carrier on afterwards but I have not reconfirmed that lately. `Jim Bohannon` runs until midnite weekdays; occasionally stays on later, like for a west-coast extra-inning silly baseball game.
Back to the Feb 19 log: quick carrier break at 1314 UT, presumably switch from night to day facilities as official Feb sunrise is 1315 UT (March: bumps all the way up to 1230 UT): 10/5 kW U4, but no difference in groundwave signal here. Night pattern has four lobes, major one to the SW away from Montreal, and four deep nulls, while day pattern is tangent broadly almost circular more to the SSW.
RRG News continues at 1314 UT Feb 19 with `Profile America` for Friday Feb 13! Day in history from US Census Bureau, 1316 ``Color Weather Radar``, which has to be interpreted by the monochrome, audio-only announcer; shall we take his word for how colorful it is? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 840, Feb 19 at 0650 UT, with WHAS nulled from a SAH more like 8 Hz than last night`s 7, a Spanish call-in show again about El Salvador; 0655 UT break ID as ESPN Deportes; 0658 UT, USG PSAs, still Spanish, including highway safety and 0659 UT influenza, but fading down just in time to miss a ToH ID, but already know it`s KVJY Pharr TX.
The ESPN Deportes schedule via
shows weekdays at 1-2 am (presumably EST), a show merely called `FC`. On the ESPN Deportes program schedule via SiriusXM, which may not be the same, there is a 12-1 am ET show called F C | Central American Soccer. So that`s what I have been hearing. FC = fútbol centroamericano? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 880-CUSB, Feb 19 at 1305 UT, Christian song somewhat overmodulated/distorted and not much on the lower sideband, as always from KHAC Tse Bonito NM; 1307 UT rendition of `Star-Spangled Banner` in English to a different tune than usual! Wonder if they play that every morning. 1308 UT on to a hymn in Navajo. KHAC is always running day facility 10 kW ND, dominating rather than anything from KLRG AR, which should now be 50 kW ND (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
