Glenn Hauser logs May 17-18-19 , 2015

** CUBA. 15730, May 18 at 1349, RHC is off while 15370 is on and VG; 1404 recheck, now 15730 is on (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** EGYPT. 13850, May 18 at 0541, no signal from R. Cairo which is normally on here 0200-0700 with unusable modulation if any (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** GUYANA. 3290-, May 18 at 0550, JBA talk modulation, so V. of Guyana still on but far too weak (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** MEXICO. 6185, May 18 at 0546, open carrier/dead air as XEPPM has left it on after closing circa 0500 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** MEXICO. Another sporadic E analog TV DX opening Sunday May 17 into UT May 18, all times UT, C-490 antenna aimed about 175 degrees:
1954 on 2, fade/in Spanish mentioning the year 1961 and `Fórmula Uno`; not a line on the 6m Es map; another brief fade-in at 2003.
2222 on 2, fade/in CCI including +v logo on full screen = Más Visión XEWO-TV Guadalajara; also f (Televisa-4 net) bug in LR, maybe different station. One of the stations with fútbol game, with a red-bordered text bug partly off-screen in UR corner, surely TELEACTIVA = XEFB-TV Monterrey.
2242 on 2, +v Más Visión ID again and full screen notice: ``Este canal puede verlo en Canal Digital 26``, so for now simulcast, but boding ill for the DXer a kilomile away. Then promo for an apparent student quiz show. 2243 back to silly ballgame, surges and fades. References by narrator to ``el chileno``, presumably a well-known player.
2255 on 2, during soccer game, tiny oval bug in LR, probably generic TELEVISA for deportes.
2310 on 3, MUF up a bit, with a different fútbol game
2325 on 3, still FB game, little QRM, while 2 has CCI
2337 on 2, still f bug in LR, not a game; but CCI
2340 on 2 // 3, same game now, mentions Copa América; star bug in UR, Televisa net 2
2350 on 3, promo for Televisa Deportes on both canales 2 y 5; game here surges to snow-free, net-2 star in UR
2354 on 4, fade-in video only, closeups of YLs in conversation, one captioned as Ruth de Gells (?), documentary? A text bug in UR is mostly off-screen on both sets
UT May 18:
0029 on 2, still heavy CCI; and on 3 some signal; 0030 algo on 4
0049 on 2, CCI including SBG
0051 on 3, game coverage mentions Guadalajara (tho this channel itself would not be direct from there)
0134 on 2, docu film caption says San Quintín, Baja California
0150 on 2, docu maybe about drug war, mentions Nayarit, etc.
0214 on 3, still fútbol
0229 on 2, still soccer
0254 on 2, studio variety show from Televisa; mostly gone after 0300 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 1120, May 17 at 2100 UT check, KEOR/KETU is still off. Also off May 18 at 1835 UT (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 1610, May 18 at 1852 UT on caradio at a quiet location in western Enid, NWS synthetic YL is barely audible including Wichita conditions, so it`s the Great Salt Plains State Park/NWR TIS, northwest of Enid, WQCL720, which AFAIK does nothing but relay NOAA Weather Radio, a default banned by the FCC as recently reaffirmed; and which provides a great public service, as who has a 162 MHz radio in their dashboard? See also USA bandscan, 530 from KS with Wichita too (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 2899.75 approx., May 18 at 0552 tune-in, ``AM Stereo 1450, KWHW and 93.5, together loving our country`` --- one of a large variety of canned slogan IDs all voiced by same YL, never mentioning 2900! and into music. Good and steady signal, S9+20 on the FRG-7 with E-W longwire, best heard yet and not much storm noise now.
Altus harmonic is still radiating for the fifth day. If one did not know better, could easily be taken for an intentional `SW` broadcast, far outstripping the JBA signal sometimes on 2660 from KGLD Tyler TX. Still not a trace of a carrier on what would be the fundamental on the low side of 1450, night or day. So would the AM stereo decode on 2900v? Not listed on 1450 as $ in NRC AM Log. Why doesn`t she say their FM is stereo too, as it surely must be? (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 104.5, May 18 at 1931 UT, bandscan on caradio in western Enid finds new signal (to me) here, stereo pilot on but not strong enough to break into it audibly, and not very hi-fi, playing slow hymn with multiple verses, ``Softly & Tenderly``; wonder if it could be an RF feeder from a nearby car in parking lot, but no peak as I walk around with an eye on the PL-880 signal meter. Signal gets Doppler flutters from Vance jets overflying, so it`s propagating from afar.
1935 segué to another; 1940 ``we are the station bringing hymn?-balance to your heart``, into some classical music. But soon back to gospel/hymns.
Next I need to drive eastward in Enid, but losing the signal by downtown. At home, from my second-floor monitoring post, waving the whip around, at 2050 UT May 18 I get a bit of another cute slogan ``Your station playing only Him-balanced [?] music ---`` but still no real ID. (At 2052 UT, KRXO ID makes it thru, i.e. the OKC 250-watt translator K283BW to which Classic Rock KRXO 107.7 has been demoted).
Finally at 2101 UT May 18 on the DX-398 with antenna vertical I retain a weak signal, ``You`re listening to hymnbalancedradio.com [?] and KZBU[?] FM Mooreland``, 2103 into USA Radio ``news``.
So this is really KZZW in Mooreland OK, little town just east of Woodward, as listed by WTFDA with 62/62 kW and 366/366 meters, format as CHR, which certainly is not the case now. Only from
http://radio-locator.com/info/KZZW-FM
do we get the proper slogan and website:
KZZW-FM 104.5 MHz
Mooreland, Oklahoma
"In-balance Radio"
Station Format: Classical
Website:
http://inbalancemusic.com/
So I gave them too much cuteness credit for ``Him- or Hymn-balanced``.
I have a feeling this doesn`t originate in Mooreland or even Woodward.
I wonder how long KZZW has been on the air, but such basic info is not easily found at FCC FM Query. I do find that the original licensee, Brooke Williams Trissel, changed her name last year following a divorce from Matthew Wayne Trisell, in Williamson County TX, to Brooke Deann Williams, of Irving TX.
And the classical is only incidental to the Christian. Info at radio-locator shows original power was 250 watts, license granted March 30, 2012, but CP for ``62 kW may now be on air``, and that was to expire on April 15, 2015. I`d say, it is on air, yes indeed. Probably just made it. Predicted coverage map shows fringe contour reaching into our western Garfield County from site SSW of Woodward in its county (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SUDAN [and non]. 13800, May 18 at 0543, R. Dabanga, good via VATICAN but with tone jamming on hi side (only one instead of two)
11645, May 18 at 0543, R. Dabanga, fair via VATICAN; tone jammer JBA still up on 11650 (Glenn Hauser, OK DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** THAILAND. 9390, May 18 at 1217, tone test, open carrier and off. Surely HSK9, as 1215-1230 is a break between the Malay and English broadcasts as 154 to 132 antenna change is made from Udorn (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 17895, May 18 at 1402, big steady open carrier, no doubt VOA Greenville-B setting up for mid-day service to Africa. Yes, it`s working OK today (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1773 monitoring: confirmed Sunday May 17 at 2100 on WRMI 15770 (and not 7570). Also confirmed after 2300 UT Sunday May 17 on WRMI 11580. Also confirmed at new time 0330 UT Monday May 18 on WRMI 9955. Also confirmed at 0300 UT Monday May 17 on Area 51 webcast and via WBCQ 5109.7-CUSB at 0305 check, as well as ending circa 0329. Next:
Tue 1100 WRMI 9955
Wed 0630 HLR 7265-CUSB
Wed 1315 WRMI 9955

(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 3185, at 0549 UT May 18, WWRB is still off. 9370 off circa 1400 UT May 18, but ON, at 0030 UT May 19 check. Not 5050 or 3185 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. Midday MW bandscan on caradio from a quiet location outside Oakwood Mall in western Enid, amid storm crashes every two or three seconds, groundwave is good, includes: Local mean noon is always 1832 UT:
530, May 18 at 1836 UT, NWS, NOAA Weather Radio, very poor, barely audible, but do make out ``Wichita 1-pm conditions``, so it`s one of the Kansas Turnpike outlets, probably the closest one near South Haven, which under ideal conditions reaches Enid. (``K530AM`` Vance AFB remains kaput). 1610, another NWS relay; see OKLAHOMA
550, May 18 at 1837 UT, KFRM Salina KS bigsig has some talk CCI underneath making SAH of ~6 Hz. Must be 5/1 kW newstalk format from KCRS Midland TX (address in Odessa). Day pattern is not unfavorable this way, but a notch at night. KCRS would certainly be readable if KFRM were not in the way. 624 km, 388 stmi, city to city
580, May 18 at 1838 UT, WIBW Wichita KS talker clearly has C&W music underneath, slow SAH of 1.4 Hz. This is certainly Lubbock TX, 500-watt KRFE, however listed as AC format in NRC AM Log. Advantage of great ground conductivity (and all the rain lately may have helped), and low frequency, despite direxional pattern westward, assuming it`s in whack
630, May 18 at 1839 UT, talk station, in heavy splash, but no IBOC, from KWPN Moore OK 640. Presumably KHOW Denver, as 670 is normal
670, May 18 at 1840 UT, gospel huxter quite readable in English, no QRM from WSCR Chicago, so it`s KLTT Commerce City (Denver market) CO
790, May 18 at 1841 UT, singing ad and ``K-triple-X`` ID from Colby KS, with KFYO Lubbock TX underneath. Always splash from 800 KQCV OKC, without which this would be listenable
850, May 18 at 1842 UT, hymn in Spanish fades up and down mostly surpassing remnant of KOA Denver, i.e. 5 kW KJON Carrollton TX (Dallas market)
870, May 18 at 1843 UT, ad for Express selling Tranes, no area code but 263-0442, then ad for a solar system, and fadeout after making SAH of about 6 Hz with another station, probably KFJZ Fort Worth in Vietnamese. Can it be WWL? Not much else on 870 around here. Yes!! It all matches up here: http://www.expressheatandac.com/ New Orleans city to city Enid distance: 1021 km = 645 statute miles --- at hi noon
Quick scan of higher band found not much of interest (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1020, May 18 at 0621 UT, Spanish preacher at least equal level with nearby KOKP Perry OK, which I almost null, as the two make a SAH of 3.6 Hz; 0630 UT outro program as ``La Voz de la Salvación`` with an address in Florida and partial phone 800-8432. 0631 UT ID as ``Radio Visión Cristiana, la emisora de ----``, another partial phone as 811-11-30, and time check for 2:32, into music.
So this is RVC`s 1020 station, KCKN Roswell NM, taking live feed from EDT zone flagship in NYC, WWRV 1330. Now they`ve fixed the frequency after big audible het KCKN had been causing, and also seem to have powered up from longtime QRP STA, and/or overcome pattern null toward KDKA and us (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
This report dispatched at 0051 UT May 19
** AUSTRALIA. 15200, Sunday May 17 at 1118, good signal in slow English, talking about GPI teaching women to write journalistic stories and take photos. It`s RBA, 100 kW, 320 degrees from Kununurra, scheduled 1115-1130 in English on Sun/Mon/Tue/Thu, per Aoki. What`s GPI? Too many options in searching on that abbr. And searching within the RBA website gets zero hits (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CHINA [non]. 1520, May 17 at 1132 UT, KYND Cypress (Houston) TX with CRI English, axually atop KOKC OKC, then fighting it out; hard to separate them at almost same azimuth from here (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CHINA [and non]. 21690, May 17 at 0556, very poor signal, but something is propagating on 13m now in the nightmiddle --- RFA Chinese via TINIAN is here, and of course the CNR1 jammer, but too weak to tell which.
13690, May 17 at 1308, very heavy CCI here between music and Chinese, then the music side make another Chinese announcement. It`s VOA Chinese via SAIPAN during this hour only, and CNR1 jamming during the Sunday evening serious music show, as also heard with less CCI on other jammer frequencies, 11785 and 11640, music with full orchestra and traditional instruments (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** EGYPT. 13850, May 17 at 0548, R. Cairo, extremely distorted Arabic music (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** MEXICO. 650, May 17 at 1125 UT, I am finally awake early enough for some summer sunrise skip from some of my favorite Mexicans, regulars an hour or two later in the winter. Here is Mexican oom-pah music from the WSW and owning the frequency, no WSM or anything else, of course XETNT, Los Mochis, Sinaloa, confirmed by ``Radio 65`` jingle at 1129, and a Sinaloa song, starting to fade and gone by 1140 recheck.
Gaisma.com lacks a listing for Los Mochis! But interpolating between Culiacán and Obregón, sunrise should be about 1227, an hour later than our Enid SR today of 1123 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** MEXICO. 730, May 17 at 1125 UT, hummy open carrier, altho hard to get a fix on it, probably XEHB, 50/1 kW in Chihuahua, to go with SRS still in from 650 XETNT Sinaloa (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** NIGERIA. 15120-, May 17 at 0552, obviously VON with wobbly AM carrier slightly on the lo side. Supposed to be in English, apparently a drama with excited W & M actors, but I can`t lock into understanding them. Is it heavily accented or really something else? At one point it almost sounds like French intonation. But at 0555 switch to studio announceress who is definitely in English.
9689.9, May 17 at 0557, drumming and fluting, good signal, some distortion, 0600 sign-on in Hausa.
7255-, May 17 at 0558, // 9689.9 but much weaker; no SAH. Anyhow, three transmitters are accounted for now, and on three frequencies instead of two (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. Another tornado outbreak Saturday evening May 16 led the OKC TV stations again to drop everything for wall-to-wall storm coverage. As usual, the only network news making it thru was CBS` at 2230 UT, shifted from KWTV RF 39 to its substation KSBI RF 23; but at 2300 UT, back to KSBI regular programming. I suppose the primetime schedule after 0000 UT May 17 again went back to channel ``52``, unchecked. NBC viewers of KFOR RF 27 out of luck until 0330 UT for SNL season finale. KOCO again shifted ABC from 5.1 to 5.2, pre-empting MeTV on RF 7.
OKC didn`t get hit, after tornados broke out to the west, but as the storm front approached The Metro, I checked the FM & AM stations circa 0130 UT May 17:
Relaying KFOR 4 audio: 94.7, 96.1, 101.9, 102.7, 1000
Relaying KWTV 9 audio: 92.5, 93.3, 104.1, 107.7, 1520
Relaying KOCO 5 audio: 99.7, 88.1 [KWOU Woodward relaying 106.3]
Relaying KOKH 25 audio: NONE
Following retained regular programming of sports or music (tho might have had weather advisory break-ins): 90.1, 91.7, 96.9, 98.1, 98.9, 100.5, 640, 930; and all gospel huxters commercial or non- (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** PALAU. 9930, Sunday May 17 at 1315, fair signal with `Easy English Study`, based on what else? Bible, now Hebrews X:38. Hunting thru WHR website, it`s not Angel 3 or Angel 4, but Angel 5, whose coverage map is supposedly Africa and Middle East from Turkey to Iran. HFCC shows:
``9930 1300 1430 43-45 HBN 100 345 0 146 1234567 290315 251015 D 9900 MyaEng USA HBN FCC`` --- CIRAF 43-45 are in fact China and Japan!
Here`s the program I heard:
``1315-1330 9:15 AM-9:30 AM Su Easy English Studies Loretta Li 9.930``
The Angel 5 schedule
http://lesea.com/whr/whr-iframe-page/?search=Angel5
is a strange thing, ``off the air`` at 00-07, but large hours of programming when it`s supposedly not ``off the air`` yet with no frequency shown: 07-12, and 1630/1700-2400.
In the 1200-1630/1700 period it hops around to a variety of frequencies depending on the hour, day of week, and customer: 9950, 9930, 9960, 9975, and a few bits on 17520, which is not in the registrations at all (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** PUNTLAND. 13800, May 17 at 1307, very poor signal in talk, then into Qur`an, so certainly R. Puntland (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SUDAN [and non]. 11645, May 17 at 0547, R. Dabanga, fair signal via VATICAN, while tone jammers still weakly stay around 11650.
13800, May 17 at 0549, R. Dabanga, YL in Arabish, good signal via VATICAN and no jamming audible. ``Night`` signals from Europe are now superior to those from Africa as we approach Solstice, hardly a month away (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U K [non]. 15510, May 17 at 1122, poor signal in English. Aoki shows it`s BBCWS, 100 kW, 13 degrees via SINGAPORE at 10-12, which only started on May 11. Heading is also USward. And of course it`s *jammed by the ChiCom, maybe by noise but not noted here (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. NEW TIME for WORLD OF RADIO: UT Monday 0330 on WRMI, 9955. Thanks, Jeff White. Otherwise still for WOR 1773:

** U S A. 9370, May 17 at 1316, again no signal from WWRB BS disservice; still none at 1536. Need to check whether WWRB is on at all, evenings on 5050 or 3185. Website
http://www.wwrb.org/about.php
has always claimed:
``Transmitters:
Global-1: Fully Operational; 115 kW capable
Global-2: Fully Operational; 115 kW capable
Global-3: Fully Operational; 150 kW capable
Global-4: Fully Operational; 150 kW capable
Global-5: Fully Operational; 150 kW capable, (back-up transmitter)``
but has not been heard on any more than two at once for several years. Now down to one, or zero? The long-outdated non-BS program schedule for 3185 was removed some time ago (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1540, May 17 at 1132 UT, incredibly awful audio catches my attention, mixture of church music and talk, sounds like an ancient cylinder recording! Music stops at 1134 UT and then a bit better copy of preacher, but still can`t understand his ID; anyhow, good signal from NE/SW, surely KXEL Waterloo IA still propagating a little past sunrise. Unlike many stations, this one axually has a full program schedule on website, strangely linked from top of home page as ``paid programming`` which this certainly is, but not all of it:
http://www.kxel.com/ProgramSchedule.aspx
``Sundays 6:30-7:30 am Whole Truth Church`` in CDT = UT -5 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) See also CHINA [non]
