Glenn Hauser logs February 25-26-27 , 2015

** GOA [and non]. 11775, Feb 27 at 1420, PMS ANGUILLA mixing with an open carrier making rapid SAH, presumably the AIR Nepali service at 1330-1430 via Panaji, except failing to modulate (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GUYANA. 3290-, Feb 27 at 0654, Voice of Guyana attains poor-fair carrier level, but just barely modulated, presumably with BBCWS (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** KOREA SOUTH [non]. 9395, Fri Feb 27 at 1430, Global 24 via WRMI, with WRN ID and into KBS World Radio. This is contrary to G24 sked at http://www.tinyurl.com/G24sked
which shows `Jazz from the Left` Fridays at 14-16 UT.
When is KBSWR supposed to be on? It shows:
Sunday thru Friday 0900-1000
Monday 2000 (followed by Israel Radio and Vatican Radio until 2100)
Saturday 2100-2200.
KBS no doubt occupies various otherwise unspecified WRN blox, but when I heard it is not even one of those. Anyhow, if you happen to catch it on 9395, this is a great improvement over KBS direct to ``North America`` on 15575 at 1300-1400 which is subject to degraded or no propagation at least until spring/summer (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** KUWAIT [non]. 21540, Feb 27 at 1412, R. Kuwait still AWOL, while 21505 Riyadh continues to propagate (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SUDAN [and non]. 15550, Feb 27 at 1523, surprised to hear no Radio Tamazuj, but the Sudanese tone jammer is already on, messing with WJHR USB. No signal on 15400 either, both of which had been VATICAN broadcasting Tamazuj without jamming at 1500-1530; another SMG transmitter is as usual on 15100 with unreasonably big signal relaying RVA in Filipino away from us, so it`s hardly accidental or a power problem that 15400 & 15550 are missing. I hunt thru the entire 19m band and do not find them anywhere else.
13800, however, is still on at 1525 with R. Tamazuj, ID at 1529 closing and 1530 into R. Dabanga, only fair signal. Then I go back to 15550 and find that has now come on with Dabanga too vs WJHR and tone jamming which got a head start. 13800 is listed as MADAGASCAR at 1500-1600, but the second half of Dabanga at 1600-1630 scheduled to switch back to Vatican, unchecked today. Latest HFCC of Feb 27 shows SMG still supposed to be on 15400 and 15550 starting at 1500 thru March 28 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 9395, Feb 27 at 1520, Global 24 via WRMI apparently just finished an unscheduled European News Net airing with their waltz theme, into survivalist commercial. This is during the 14-16 Friday period when `Jazz from the Left` is supposed to appear. See also KOREA SOUTH [non] (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 17775, Feb 27 at 1414, KVOH signal has built up to day level earlier than usual, but correlates with earlying sunrises and westward ionization. However, from March 8 it will no doubt start signing on an hour earlier at 1300, putting it back into the dark zone for starters (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 17790, Feb 27 at 1414, gospel music and not // 15770 or other Overcomer frequencies, so Radio Africa Network via WRMI is back, after a bihour of BS yesterday (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 9265, Feb 27 at 1519, no signal from WINB. Only a biweek ago did they start broadcasting weekdays as early as 1400, with `Manning Report`. Aha, a new sked dated March 1 has already been posted at http://www.winb.com/schedule.htm
showing weekday start is now 1600, with `Classic Redneck Radio`, so Manning sure didn`t last long --- found coverage was inadequate? What was it about? What else but, as described in Wikipedia: ``Through the ATLAH church, Manning hosts an online series called The Manning Report, which features criticism on such topics as the negative influence of black celebrities, homosexuality and the alleged criminal acts of current U.S. President Barack Obama.`` `TruNews` M-F at 19-20 is also gone, replaced by `Voice of Evangelism`. No doubt there are further changes amongst all the gospel huxters. Saturday start is now 1500; Sunday 1230. Listened online to a minute of `Redneck` Feb 27 at 1652 --- it`s talk about survivalism, stockpiling food so you don`t have to eat slugs out in the field! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1530, Feb 27 at 0659 UT, Arkansas religious event calendar continues past 0700 UT, atop the BS from WCKY, so it`s again the cheatin` KVDW England AR, 2.5 kW `daytimer`, for whom breaking FCC rules and licensing is obviously no sin (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1600, Feb 27 at 0657 UT, ID in passing as KGYM, weather and local sports for Iowa. First I did double-take as sounded like KGYN, which is already taken by 1210 Guymon OK. This on FRG-7 with E-W longwire; surprised to have this dominating 1600 rather than St Louis or Denver or even Vietnam [non]. Forget about my closest, KUSH Cushing OK, only 70 watts at night.
KGYM is 5/5 kW U2 in Cedar Rapids (which I cheekily abbr. ``CRap``). ``The Gym``, and guess what its format is? (hint: not nudism). This was originally KCRG (as in channel ``9`` TV too) until Oct 20, 2006. Licensee is now KZIA Inc., so is there a New Mexico connexion? Various NM stations have used KZIA in the past, but let it go. Perhaps the Zia Pueblo objected, but the Zia Sun Symbol has been adopted to represent NM as a whole. KZIA is currently an unassigned call on AM, but it`s now the sibling CRap FM 102.9 with 100 kW. 1600 night pattern is a broad ellipse peaking northwest, maximum signal from W to NW to NE, but we should be getting very little here to the SW, so really on ND day pattern? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** VATICAN. See SUDAN [and non], changes to relays of clandestines
UNIDENTIFIED. 17665, Feb 27 at 1413, open carrier, good and steady with lite fading, presumably Greenville B again checking whether the transmitter will be OK for a later broadcast on another nearby frequency. Typical behaviour around 9 am local as the day shift starts? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST
This report despatched at 1741 UT February 27

** BANGLADESH. 15505, Feb 26 at 1358:55, BB IS starts, mistimesignal ends earlier at 1359:19, opening theme for Urdu service; very poor (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL. 11747 & 11813, Feb 26 at 0627, crackling spurs of 11780.1v, RNA/RNB are still audible (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CHINA. CNR1 jammers morning of Feb 26:
9155, Feb 26 at 1353, CNR1 jammer, very good with flutter; but not in synch with the next two
9230, Feb 26 at 1353, CNR1 jammer, very good with flutter
9350, Feb 26 at 1353, CNR1 jammer, fair and synch with 9230 not 9155
No full bandscan until next hour, starting with:
12910, Feb 16 at 1438, CNR1 jammer, very good; none in the 17s, 14s, 11s, 10s, 8s, but:
13665, Feb 26 at 1439, CNR1 jammer, fair // 12910
9680, Feb 26 at 1443, CNR1 jammer, good, not much victim QRM now
9605, Feb 26 at 1444, CNR1 jammer, good but not synch with others
9530, Feb 26 at 1445, CNR1 jammer, poor
7445, Feb 26 at 1446, CNR1 jammer, fair with CCI, not synch 12910
7385, Feb 26 at 1446, CNR1 jammer, good, only echo apart from 12910
6145, Feb 26 at 1447, CNR1 jammer, very poor but // 12910
17585, Feb 26 at 1449, CNR1 jammer, poor
15745, Feb 26 at 1449, CNR1 jammer, fair // 12910
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** BRAZIL. 11745 & 11815, Feb 27 at 0206, crackle spurs from 11780.1 RNA/RNB. 11760 RHC is also splattering, so I make sure the garbage around 11745 modulation spikes are matching 11780.1 on another receiver, not 11760 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** EGYPT. Not having paid much attn to R. Cairo lately, I do so now:
9860, UT Fri Feb 27 at 0201, good signal, undermodulated but sufficient with ME music as the English sesquihour is underway. Not distorted – that is, until the YL announcer comes on at 0202; bad studio mike and ambience are part of the problem. Bits of music; 0203 program summary but hard to follow; 0204 over to OM, ``Radio Cairo presents --- this is Islam``, a weekly show. It`s slightly more readable but the accent is a problem. I try to get something out of it but cannot. Now, when are they going to expound on ``this is Coptic``? Then timesignal ends at 0214:36.5 --- who would want to set his chronometer at that odd hour? News theme tape wows or snags, as did the one introducing the Islam show. Now the YL newscaster modulation is too high, causing some distortion. Their studio equipment must be very old and worn out; transmitters too. And so it goes.
9905, Feb 27 at 0205, R. Cairo, good signal in Arabic, suppressed and distorted modulation
9965, Feb 27 at 0205, R. Cairo, good signal in other Arabic, this one JBM with whine; no 12s audible now (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** IRAN. 9445, Feb 27 at 0218.5 just as I am tuning across a weak station, it cuts off the air in mid-word. It was Voz de la República Islámica de Irán, depriving Spanish listeners of the last sesquiminute of their broadcast, 500 kW, 304 degrees from Kamalabad to Mexico and Caribbean (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** OKLAHOMA. 1640, Feb 27 at 0146 UT, and several other times lately, as I am rotating the DX-398 on my easel checking for DX in stronger station nulls, I keep finding KZLS nulling and thus peaking in a wrong direxion. It`s supposed to be about the same as OKC stations to the SSE altho less than half as far, east of Hennessey, but I keep getting a null considerably clockwise from there, i.e. further west if it`s still to the south of here. I recheck several OKC and other ground- and skywave stations and they appear to null at the proper spots. Maybe something around here is skewing my readings, but only in the X-band? Or KZLS has secretly moved transmitter site, or maybe has a backup site? Unlikely; no such info at radio-locator.com or FCC AM Query. Will have to check further, DF from other locations (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** SRI LANKA. 11905, Feb 27 at 0114:47.5, music prélude starts, 0115:11.5 mistimesignal ends from SLBC, very poor (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1762 monitoring: confirmed UT Friday Feb 27 at 0001:10 on Global 24 via WRMI 9395. Next:
Fri 2130 on WRMI 7570 & 15770

Wed 2200 on WBCQ 7490v
Wed 2201 on Global 24 via WRMI 9395
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 9395, Thu Feb 26 at 2156, Global 24 via WRMI, `Dialogos Greece` says it is about to finish, with a final musical selexion. So this week not running over an hour; 2200 no ID but change to waltz theme and opening European News Network, no evergreen but a new one leading with this week`s suicide bombing in Kano (did he say Europe??). G24 program grid continues to allege that WORLD OF RADIO is aired at this time, as indeed it was until Feb (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 7490-v, Feb 27 at 0159, WBCQ with talk show going into a break, throws in some Hebrew expressions, phone 845-345-1010, but just as I anticipated, he`s cut off for canned ID in time to join Brother Hystairical in progress at 0200, who takes priority over everything. Yes, it was Rabbi Yaakov Spivak, as now sked UT Tue thru Fri at 01-02. I wonder what his show is about (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 7505.35 approx., Feb 27 at 0157, WRNO is on before nominal *0200, as a program from Crosslinechurch.com is concluding. VG signal and VG modulation too! Now if they can only keep that up, and we`ll try to overlook being so far off-frequency. After 0214 when I am measuring the frequency, YL DJ claims twice to be on ``7.505``. Hey, wouldn`t it be neat if once, just once, some off-frequency SW station announced its real exact frequency?! DHYB; ignorance is bliss (and deniable). (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1220, Feb 27 at 0152 UT, ``You`re never more than 20 minutes away from the weather on My Country, WSLM 12-20 AM``. And you`re never less than 5000 watts day power either, rather than 82 watts night, per NRC AM Log, which also shows slogan instead as ``Classic Country``. Maybe they utter both (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1630, Feb 27 at 0141 UT, Spanish is making it instead of usual English from KKGM and KCJJ, and it loops NW/SE, so KRND in Fox Farm WY; adstring including a Dodge dealer in AC 970 (which is adjacent Colorado); amid heavy CCI, SHVA promos some norteño event the next day, viernes 28; 0144 website UNC - algo .org, probably referring to University of Northern Colorado; 0145 Top Dollar(?) store in Cheyenne. 0145 ``La Jota Mexicana, 16-30 AM, 94.7 FM``. Where does the Jota name come from? Allusion to a dance originating in Spain? Has retained original call KRND presumably invoking old slogan ``Grande``. IIRC this station used to have an odd reduced power, but NRC AM Log 2014-2015 now shows it`s 10/1 kW U1 like most X-banders and the other three on 1630.
Owner started other Spanish stations in Colorado. History page is interesting but still doesn`t explain where the J comes from. Maybe it`s obvious to anyone of La Raza; or maybe it`s just random branding which sounds neat. It certainly beats Zeta with its unsavory connotations. Well, at least there is a J in its translator call, K223CJ, tho that was surely a sequential assignment. But wait, channel 223 is 92.5, not 94.7. Website http://lajotamexicana.com/ confirms 94.7 is it now. The WTFDA FM Database shows the 94.7 in Cheyenne is K234AH relaying KRAE [1480] with Oldies, ``Greatest Hits of the 50s and 60s`` and still shows 92.5 K223CJ as the KRND 1630 duplicator with 50 watts. So both references need this updated. How much longer before KRND starts bestowing top billing on its FM translator, a widespread industry trend? It`s already physically on the upper side of the homepage logo (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
This report dispatched at 0539 UT February 27

** CUBA. 15700, Feb 26 at 1400, no CRI English relay audible, just crackling audio, until JIP news at 1401, crackle still audible underneath. Likewise on 15370 RHC Spanish. Wiggle those patchcords? Or something more serious, like antenna wires flapping, shorting in the breeze (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** EQUATORIAL GUINEA [non]. 17790, Feb 26 at 1404, Brother Scare instead of Radio Africa Network on this WRMI frequency, // and synch with intentional BS on 15770, 11825. Still the same at 1433, 1450 chex. Mistaken feed, or backup, default? RAN also deliberately subcontracts BS at certain other hours, but normally hear their own programming now. Ivo Ivanov, Blgaria also noted this until RAN resumed at 1600 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** GUATEMALA. 4055-, Feb 26 at 0619, R. Verdad carrier is unusually still on, slightly on the lo side after normal (exc UT Mon) sign-off circa 0609*. So I did log them on remnant of Feb 25, which is the 15th anniversary of their first broadcast, one sesquidecade ago.
Dr Madrid is really getting into ``TV`` = web video and provides this announcement:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ql37vaRv4Js
which says their quinceañera celebration will axually be on Sat Feb 28 starting at 2300 UT until 0330 UT [March 1]. Then we may hear something special on 4055 and webcast (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** GUYANA. 3290-, Feb 26 at 0621, VOG is on but very poor, some modulation, presumably usual BBCWS relay (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** KUWAIT. 21540, Feb 26 at 1358, R. Kuwait still AWOL for at least the third day, while 21505 Saudi is audible; also no 21540 later in the 14 UT hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** PHILIPPINES. 9400, Feb 26 at 1349, Chinese from FEBC is back on-frequency, making only a fast SAH with Voice of Kurdistan, instead of a horrible het 300-500 Hz above it for the last week. This may well result from Wolfgang Büschel notifying BRB`s Ludo Maes, broker of VOK, about the problem suggesting he lean on FEBC to fix it. But will it stay fixed? It`s happened before. An even better idea: don`t even try to share 9400 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1761 monitoring: confirmed on webcast of WBCQ 7490v, Wed Feb 25 at 2200; and on that of Global 24, Wed Feb 25 at 2201.
WORLD OF RADIO 1762 monitoring: confirmed first SW broadcast, also webcast, of WRMI 9955, UT Thu Feb 26 at 0431. Also good on 9955, Thu Feb 26 at 1330. Next:
Fri 0001 on Global 24 via WRMI 9395
Fri 2130 on WRMI 7570 & 15770
Sat 0730 & 1530 on Hamburger Lokalradio 7265-CUSB
Sat 1000 on WRMI 5850

Wed 2201 on Global 24 via WRMI 9395
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 9475 // 9930, Wed Feb 25 at 2025, unusually the two operable WTWW transmitters are duplicating (while 12105 still off), preëmpting dead gospel-huxtering from Laporte for live(?) coverage of the National Religious Broadcasters annual convention in Nashville, Ted interviewing someone. At 2242 recheck, still // but now with hymnmusic. Con runs from 23 to 26 Feb, so maybe even more the next day (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 750, Feb 26 at 1322 UT, talk in English from ENE/WSW, which rules out KAMA, much wanted Okie KSEO, KMMJ, nor even WSB this late, tho the Chicagoans are still in such as 780 vs KSPI, 1000 WMVP vs KTOK. That leaves KBNN Lebanon MO, 5 kW daytimer, which I also presumably logged on Feb 14 last year around the same time. 1323 UT this year goes on to discuss Led Zeppelin (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 860, Feb 26 at 1331 UT, KKOW Pittsburg KS is finishing the ``Slap Happy Polka``, on its weekdaily spot, `Polka Time`. This is mentioned on the Wikipedia page about KKOW: ``the morning polka (7:30 daily with birthday dedications, sponsored by Grimaldi's Cash Grain feedstore in Pittsburg)``.
BTW, polka fans with access to the RFD-TV channel may audition Molly Bee`s polka hour UT Sundays at 0300-0400, and another episode midweeks (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1050, Feb 26 at 1332 UT, ``Newstalk 1050, KSIS and also KSISradio.com`` IDs twice in less than a minute, i.e. 1 kW ND from Sedalia MO, overcoming the Okies.
I had also just heard 950, KWOS Jefferson City MO, 5 kW ND also newstalk (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** U S A. 1300, Feb 26 at 1341 UT, funeral announcements mentioning Marshall, Richmond and Sedalia, i.e. KMMO Marshall MO, 1 kW ND (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
